Here's a question, does anyone here curse in front of their parents?

No, and I don't imagine that I ever will. I might occasionally say, "Damn" or a variation of such, but I don't think I'll ever go further than that. I'm sure my mother has heard me a few times, though.

There's a time and a place for cursing and if I'm in the right time and place I let the bad words fly. My sister, though, has no ****ing idea when to hold back. We'll be at dinner with my Grandmother and she's dropping F-Bombs like a mad woman.

i don't curse or use profanity. at worst, i'll say ass or the "b-word" but when i was 17 that was my new years resolution and i've pretty much stuck with it.

i used to cuss a lot, a whole lot, and i just kinda got to the point where i didn't really feel like i was saying anything and i knew better ways to express myself.
i don't really mind when people cuss as pretty much everyone i know does, but it does aggravate me when the words are said just to sound cool, and you can usually tell when they are.

You know, there is really no logical reason for the F-word to be frowned upon. It's not a slur against anybody. It's just an alternative way to describe a natural act, and it doesn't even have THAT meaning in most situations. It's interesting how we deal with language and the way we draw arbitrary lines.

for me i just don't find it audibly appealing for lack of a better phrase. i don't mind when it's used, but it can be overkill, and that can be said for any word said over and over to the point of annoyance, not just obscenities

I don't enjoy hearing people curse, to be honest. I don't know if "offends" is the right word though.

I'm from NJ, we insert them in be*******tween words.

How about
F**k those f**king f**kers?

There is one curse word which I won't use and hate hearing from others and that is c**t. Can't explain why, I just really can't stand it.

I don't curse and I tend to avoid people that can't say one sentence without cursing. Though there are times curse words slip out when I am REALLY mad , frustrated, or annoyed. But it takes a lot to get me to that point.

I work in customer service so I know how it is holding back cursing especially when dealing with annoying customers and co-workers.

F*** no, words are wind.

I really love the word f***. It is probably the most versatile word in the English language haha

You've seen that stick figure video, too huh?

Transitive verb: "John f***s Shirley"

Intransitive verb: "Shirley f***s"

Inquiry: Who the f*** was that?"

Dissatisfaction: "I don't like what the f*** is going on here!"

Dismissal: "Why don't you go outside and play hide & go f*** yourself!"

If anyone doesn't know what the f*** I'm referring to, just go to youtube and search for "the word f***", it's a black and white stick figure cartoon explaining the versatility of the word. And it's f***ing genius.

Americans seem to really be shocked by "c**t". Over here in Ireland (& Britain) it's practically a term of endearment.

Words are words, and while some may be offensive (i.e. slurs) most are neutral without context. Personally, I curse a fair amount, more when I'm trying to be funny, but less than when I was a teenager and saying "****" was a stupid thrill.

Also, I'm going to once and for all call bull**** on the "people who curse have limited vocabularies", because it's abso-f***ing-lutely idiotic to say that someone who doesn't set aside some words as too "bad" to be used has a greater vocabulary than someone who actually uses a larger variety of words.

Agreed. The saying doesn't make sense at all. Instead of **** I could have said "darn", but I didn't. Does this mean I have a limited vocabulary? I know both words, but I use one. There's no logic behind it.

USE that vocabulary. Say "****ing darn it!" Maybe throw the word "tribulations" in there. It's a good word.

I get more offended by words that have consonant clusters of more than 3 letters.

I was on the train last night coming home from work and there was a Cubs game so obviously quite a few suburban drunkards were onboard, spouting bombs here and there. There were little kids near them and the conductor had to tell the cops to go talk to them. Granted I know kids hear stuff at school, but as an adult at least attempt to make like you know better than them.

They will kick you off the bus out here for cursing, I've seen it done before. Usually it's drunk folks. They will warn you of course

it seems like use of the 'F' word doesn't seem to be that much of a problem with most, but does anyone here ever go nuts on the 'C' word?... you know, that one word that most women usually despise hearing... think any episode of the old HBO show, Deadwood, where the 'F' and 'C' words, among so many other colorful terms, flew left and right, every few seconds...

I get annoyed if someone uses curse words literally in every sentence...mainly because they sound like an uneducated thug.

But in normal day to day It doesn't bother me. My wife can't stand cuss words though. She finds them crude and unneeded.

I don't know how some of you can be intimate with a person without curse words.

The "f" word is more of an amplifier nowadays. Using it every other word is annoying, but there's nothing wrong with a good ol' f-bomb dropped for emphasis every now and then.

I'm just still taken aback that television networks air such gruesome images on shows like Walking Dead and Hannibal, yet heaven forbid a character say "****" on occassion.
