The Force Awakens Do you like the new lightsaber?

Since the Jedi have blue and green lightsabers,why can't the Sith have red and black ones?A black light saber would of been something new and cool at the same time,this cross sword looking lightsaber just looks horrible.

Okay. Before I say anything, I know the Energy Sword of the Halo universe was obviously influenced (directly or indirectly) by the lightsaber of the Star Wars franchise. However, this new lightsaber that appears in The Force Awakens teaser trailer really reminds me of Bungie's Halo-Trilogy-era Energy Sword. These days if you play any current Halo games or watch any current Halo media the Energy blade no longer seems to be made of the same substances as it was before. It's now a lot more solid. However if you go back and play Bungie's games, particularly Halo 2 you'd find the Energy Sword has a much more unique feel to it than the "hardlight" Energy Swords of 343 Industries.
Play the original Halo, Halo 2 or Halo 3 and compare the Energy Sword to the original lightsaber. It's similar, but not that similar. However, take a look at the new lightsaber in The Force Awakens and you may notice a striking similarity. From the way the handle emits the energy, to the 'hostility' of the blade, even to the sound it makes - especially the sound.

And now to jog your memory even more... let's go back to the early 2000s.

I like the new sword. It now looks like one, instead of a cgied styrofoam tube or flashlight. Also like the flaming effect. Newcomers to the SW universe will no longer mistake it for a laser sword, but rather a plasma sword!

A black Lightsaber doesn't really look all that inspiring. It's fine as an oddity, but is a bit too distracting imo. I think a yellow or orange lightsaber is probably better for alternative dark side colours.

I love yellow sabers. They're my favorite of the expanded color selection. I always carry a yellow saber as backup for whenever my arm gets sliced off and I lose my green one.

Happens more often than you would expect, too.

My preference would still to be give the dark side yellow or orange alongside their traditional red and leave the light side with blue and green. I'd say keep the colour variations rarefied and not have an entire rainbow range of lightsabers.

After seeing the plethora of colors in the EU I was always disappointed that almost all the Jedi in the PT had either blue or green sabers. I mean, those are iconic colors but kinda boring when you see a whole army of them.
