Yes that particular bit but the fights from the prequels were amazing and took light saver combat to new heights. Some YouTube videos from fans have some awesome choreography and I am sure whoever is doing this new films combat will implement great fight scenes.
Don't think that is the case when the best duel is in Empire. :cwink:

The new lightsaber is not vey practical. At the slightest bend of the wrist, the wielder is in danger of cutting his own hand.

No not really. That could be said the same with Maul's lightsaber as well. Again this practical "stuff" is funny. They are not pracital weapons. But we are dealing with magical Force wielding people that can use these weapons and the Force guides them. It's always how its been.

It's practical enough with a bit of suspension of disbelief. The Maulsaber comparison is apt. Heck, the normal lightsaber comparison is apt. The weapon is inherently extra dangerous.

Every time I see Luke ignite it for the 1st time in ANH, I get shivers. He's REALLY careless.

Exactly These are fantasy, the weapons require suspension of disbelief. All of them work as long as you give into the disbelief of The Force guiding their actions partially. Yes Luke was very careless in ANH with it. I thought I was the only one that felt like that. Obi-Wan should have yelled at him. lol.

"Screw it, I'm going straight for Leia"

Obviously it's not impractical as it's in the movie and some guy is using it, so it's safe to assume the wielder knows how to use it. I don't see the user being flashy as Darth Maul, but more about power and technique.
The good thing is it's got ppl interested in talking about it, so that garners interest in the movie. Until, we see it in action we can just jump to conclusions and guessing.

LOL I just watched this a little while ago. He flails it around the room like a blindfolded kid attacking a piñata. Everybody in Ben's shanty is lucky they made it out in one piece.

Haha, by coincidence, I just brough up the same topic in another thread. :funny:

what if the one weilding the lightsaber has an anti lightsaber glove

A cross guard can actually be utilized in a variety of offensive moves for close quarters combat. I hope the fight choreographer takes advantage of this opportunity. I'm very much looking forward to it.

3 things can happen

Crossguard Saber (official name) wielder attacks with a downward strike and is blocked...

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Crossguard_lightsaber

1. Normal saber wielder and over powers him and pushes his own blade hilt into him, wounding or killing him.

2. Crossguard wielder over powers the enemy and stabs them with the shorter guard blade.

3.Crossguard wielder actually MULTIPLE crystals in the guard blade to adjust their length....and simply hits a button once their attack is blocked...sending a longer 3-4 feet of saber into their opponents chest.

Thing is in the 3rd case, it would be better if the "guard" blades were hidden and secret somehow.

I'm still not buying this "any lightsaber can kill the user" crap. The blade is pointing away from you. As long as you're not fool enough to grab the blade,it isn't going to hurt you.

Even Maul's blades weren't very dangerous to him,as he spun them in a "pinwheel" motion. If this new blade was spun-even inadvertently, the user faces death/decapitation.

People need to own up.It's dumb.Looks cool (arguably) but not practical.

No it's not dumb. But I know you just want a response from people with a statement like that.

Practicality can go hang out in Nolan's Batmovies. It has no place in Star Wars.

My issues are aesthetic but whatever. I'm not losing sleep over it.

It's a glove where it's impossible to hold a lightsaber. It just keeps falling out of your hand constantly.

Why in the dickens would a jedi or sith wear such a silly thing? :o
