Do you read "accents" into characters' voices?

I thought this asked, "What accent to you give them when you read them (aloud)?" To which I was going to say, "French."

But the answer is yes.
Are you French, and that's why? If yes, then do you read characters like Hulk, Thing, and Juggs with a French accent? If so do they, by default, sound like Batroc the leaper? Is your favorite character Batroc the leaper? Do you shave your armpits?

And to answer the question: yes, but only when there is supposed to be an accent. Like in Preacher with Cassidy. His was probably the most difficult because in my head it was easy to mix up a British and Irish accent.

Oui, as far as I can tell, pure blooded. Though the blonde hair/blue eye thing has me wondering.

However, I don't read them with French accents, I give them American accents. Batroc sounds like me if I were a French male, literally attempting to give a French accent. So it would sound stereotypical. Iron Man is my fave character. And yes. I shave everything but my head.

Everything? :woot:

It's hard to play beach volleyball otherwise, and if I stop, I get itchy. So, yes.

One of the best things for me about 1602 was all the accents. Like Matt Murdock's irish, and the Thing had a bit of a yorkshire accent going on if I recall, which was cool.

Oddly enough, whenever I am reading comics, I (mentally) unintentionally read the dialogue of certain characters with the voice of the performer who defined it for me, or would.

Some examples:

Wolverine....Mark Hamill
Doctor Hurt....Charlie Sheen/Carlos Estevez
R'as al Ghul...David Warner
Scarecrow...Cillian Murphy
Alfred...Michael Caine
Catwoman...Michelle Pfeiffer
Penguin....Burgess Meredith
Magneto...Ian McKellan

There is probably one or two more I am not thinking of, but, that is about it.

Wolverine is always Steve Blum for me
Parker i just read in my voice i guess
Cap is the voice from EMH and iron man is RDJ

Interesting point...I had a few that I mentally "added" them in:

Ben Grimm..an earlier poster stated Louie Armstrong..I had a mix of Louie and maybe some James Cagney mixed in..

Red Wolf, American Eagle, & Wyatt Wingfoot I all imagined as having a very stoic Native American kinda speaking style.

I always imagined Puck as having a stereotypical Canadian accent with the ehs, and ouuu sounds.

Crimson Dynamo, Darkstar, Omega Red I all imagined with the heavy Soviet-type style speaking.

I also imagined Namor has having some kind of accent too..although I wasn't sure what it would actually sound like. Just having something that would obviously place him as from a different locale...

what is Thanos' voice to you guys?

I always imagined a slightly raspy aristocratic voice with a british accent...the voice is deep due to him being 6'7, as any real tall person may have a deep voice.

I never read Thanos as a real deep old gravely type voice. He's not a monster

I imagine Thanos has a deep booming intellectual sounding accent

I remember trying to watch Pryde of the X-men and getting annoyed at the australian Wolverine :whatever:

Then in TAS when they changed voice actors for Gambit (and got a lower budget and crappy story lines)

I loved Pryde of the X-men. That was a terrible idea for world domination. I love that they were going to pretty much destroy earth with a meteor, have one woman and five guys (give or take people like the Hulk who can maybe survive that) to repopulate a planet that is almost certainly incapable of supporting life.

Rocket Raccoon's voice is currently a big issue for me. I always read him with something like Ed Asner's voice in Guardians of the Galaxy, but now that he's being adapted into media with sound, like in cartoons or the Marvel Heroes game, he's always presented as this weird space-cockney. It makes absolutely no sense to me, but I know he's gonna be portrayed that way in the movie too, and then that'll be the interpretation that'll filter back into the comics over time. Kind of pisses me off.

I would think they would get some kind of Sci-Fi icon actor to do the voice. Billy Dee Williams or some s**t....

In my mind:

Vincent Price is Dr Doom
Christopher Lee is Ra's
Ricardo Montalban is Bane
Rob Paulsen is Deadpool

All my characters have a "voice" helps to bring the characters to life. Some characters have the same voice though like Captain America/Cyclops and Dr. Doom/Ultron.

I always read Gambit with that cajun accent and Rogue with that southern twang but they do write that way so it's not like its much of a stretch

I read Prof X as Patrick Stewart and Gambit as the voice he has in the 90s cartoon.
