Do you think Batman is 'Goth'?

I often overhear some weird types at comic stores that I frequent who perceive Batman as the 'Goth' type ("You know, dark persona, dresses in black, lives by himself" blah, blah blah) I thought this was preposterous, but still an amusing notion. Any others 2 cents in the fountain?

I would say he is more grim and brooding then "goth". The guy lives in a world that is consumed with never-ending violance. Kind of hard to be a ray of sunshine 24/7.

Plus... there are reasons, very good ones, why he wears black and isolates himself. Black conceals better under the cover of darkness. He does not want anyone interferring with his crusade to end crime and so he keeps people at a distance. Plus he has seen so much death... why bring people into your life if they are just going to die? Characters have struggled to be a part of his world, he has not let them in willingly.

Not "goth", in my opinon at least.

I don't think Batman is "goth" just because he wears black costume I do think he has more darker side from any another characater.

There's a difference between Goth and Gothic.

Batman is most certainly Gothic, but he isn't Goth.

If dark persona, dresses in black, lives by himself describes Goths, Goths are bats cause' he's been doing that since 1939. If they ever do a Ultimate-type Batman, hed probably be a little whiny emo-kid coming back from a dashboard confessional concert when his parents were killed.

I was saying that Batman has been living a goth lifestyle since before it was called goth.

Yes, Batman is gothic in atmosphere and mood in the same sense as the classic gothic horror films that inspired his creation-The Bat and Dracula. No, Batman is not a goth--wearing makeup, Edward Scissorhands hair, listening to goth/industrial music (Bauhaus, Skinny Puppy, etc) going to goth clubs, graveyards. Neil Gaiman's Sandman and Death are goths in the DCU.

Some of the ways he's been drawn, or portrayed have been gothic.

But the character isn't gothic, I'd say Batman is more of a bad ass than a goth.

But.....think about it. What classifies as gothic? And what classifies as goth?

CConn made the perfect point. He's gothic.....not goth.

He does love to wear black though, even OUTSIDE his Batman mask, but that's b/c Batman is the REAL him. He's dark, he's haunted, and he's obviously one with the darkness. But, he's not like Dracula.
