Do you even check your posts? This one doesn't even make sense? No wonder you have so many.

I think the tone will be pretty much the same as the original, which I don't find so bad. I didn't hate the first movie, just.. didn't like it that much.

The semi-humorous tone of the first film wasn't the problem. It was using ridiculous contrivances like Alba unnecessarily undressing to convey it that made it suck. Place something meaningful rather than gratuitous and the movie audience and comic fans alike will respond positively. I'm just not certain that degree of subtelty is within Mr. Story's grasp.

from what ive seen it doesnt look necessarily darker, a little more serious, but at the same time it looks more comic-bookish, which is fine with me. :o

I think it will, but only for the better:up:

Well I voted yes but it may be a little too early to tell. Actually that opening sequence would tell the whole tale based on possibly one single thing.

Did the SS save the torch or did he let him fall.

If Tim Story let him fall that tells you right there they are going for a more serious tone.

They probably shot two or three scenarios for that scene right there.

Even Alba was annoyed with that scene, if you listen to the commentary audio on the DVD. It was written in after the script was already finished and Fox found out they had her playing Sue Storm. Someone in charge must have decided they HAD to find a way to show off Jessica's.... assets. It probably sold a few tickets, but at the cost of cheapening the movie.

Let's face it. The first movie was a rush job. This one has been in preproduction for over a year. I think it will be a Quantum Leap, Scott Bakula-style over the first one. It's Clobberin' Time! :thing:

The trailer in itself shows that the tone would be at least more serious than the first one.

I just hope the rest of the film isn't a campy slapfeast.

Yeah, you can tell a movie wasn´t satisfying when even the cast complains a lot while doing the commentary... Alba complained about that and also about Ben´s fiancee going out half-naked in the middle of NY, Ben I remember complaining about having important scenes with Alicia cut off and then about having to sell a clunky line like "no Thing to stand in your way"...

I think they will. I also think they'll still keep the lighthearted feel from the first FF movie. It seems to me they're going for something basically a replica of FF, but improving on it by making it less redundant and more serious epic. As for the humor, I hope to god they improve on it and not throw us a bloody cliche fest.

Its too early to tell, but judging from the fact it was written by a comedic write, the tone will still probably be somewhat goofy.

I understand people wanting it to be a better movie, believe me you I understand, but I don't understand these admited fans of the comic looking for a uber serious movie when that wasn't the tone of the comic. I could understand wishing for better written comedy and a better storyline and better actors protraying Sue and Reed but I don't think that every comicbook movie should be dark. Light hearted fun is good for a change.

This type of thinking from the fans is the exact reason that we got a almost completely serious Superman movie (Yes I'm sure some people loved it and I'm not trying to diss your opinion) and a completely, in my opinion, overly serious uninteresting Hulk movie. I for one am tired of overly serious comicbook movies, so with that being said, I hope that FF2 is better than the first one but just as light and fun.

No, i do not believe for a second that this one will any more serious than the first one was.
First of all, Tim Story can not do a serious movie, so, if it tries, i do believe that it will fail even more than the first one.
Second, there are the fans of the first one that are expecting more of the same, then there are the kids, which were the main target of the 1st movie.

No, i don´t think it will be any more serious, and that´s why, IMO, it will fail, just the first one.
Sure, i haven´t seen it, so, i might be wrong about it, but don´t bet on it...
And, for the record, i don´t hate the 1st movie, it´s way better than Blade: Trinity, The Punisher and Elektra, and it´s a fun light popcorn movie...but, that is exactly the problem, the all "fun light popcorn movie".

I expect the same general feel with a touch of darkness kinda like spider-man 2 as opposed to the original or x2 vs x-men.

Most sequals are darker.

There was no change in tone between Spider-Man and Spider-Man II, just like there wasn´t between X-Men and X-Men2.
The diference that existed between those movies was of story, not of tone.

Contrary of what many people believe, not many movies change tone, they only do when they change directors.

great example being the 90s batman franchise...

I can agree that the movie will have only be slighty more serious!!! I think there will be more action, more of an epic feel, but the cheesy humor will still be peasent...it is the Fantastic Four after all!!!:cwink:

The first few scenes actually worry me quite a bit. It's hard to describe but it seems light to me.
Many have said that the comics have humor in them and they are right. I don't think humor is what we're talking about here. I think it's more the general tone of the movie.
This comes from the acting and overall directing of the movie.
You can have a very serious and even heavy movie with humorous moments.
You can also have a movie with no jokes which just seems light, or doesn't take itself seriously.
it's the difference between real movies and some teen disney movies.
What I call power ranger acting.
The new Star wars have that quality to them.

Based on the acting we see so far, reed's reaction, Thing wiping tears, Johnny's comments, and just the feel of it, for example the slight smile reed has on his face as Johnny runs past him, to the comedian priest guy, all this thing give me a light beer impression rather than a real movie impression.

IMO, armagedon and the invincibles capture the Tone of the FF comics perfectly. Humorous but real, serious and heavy, at the same time.

My reaction to the trailer was similar. For some reason. the priest struck me the same way as the dog covering his eyes in the first movie. It didn't look like a movie clip.

Amen.

Amen.

If the formula brought in the cash, why change it? I doubt there will be much difference; more lame dialogue, terribly cliched fights, and uninspired plot contrivances.

As you know, one of the main criticisms the first movie has received - from myself, among others - is the tone was too comedic and silly and it didn´t feel epic enough. Of course a teaser is not enough to judge, but given the feel of it do you sense an intention of going for a more serious and epic tone this time? Have they listened to the fans?
I think the tone will be more serious, not sure to what extent, but it should represent a big improvement. The Surfer's appearance alone will make the scale of the film more epic.

after looking at the trailer I don't see any change in the tone at all

I hope so - new writer, maybe a new tone...

I hate to say it, but the actors in Fantastic Four simply can't act. People ask why did they made Alba strip down to her bra/panties--because that's what she's good at (that's all that is expected of her), she's not known for her acting, but how hot she is. Even upon viewing the trailer, look at Reed and Johnny interaction (during the TUX moment) how goofy-faced their acting is just before he goes after the Surfer. I hope they don't act like that throughout the film when concerning the Surfer and Galactus. Here's why:

To me, it's impossible to have a movie with Silver Surfer and Galactus and not have serious/dramatic scenes. These characters are more powerful and more threatening than any Batman, Spider-Man, Superman or X-Men villains will ever be. It has to be taking serious or it will fail as a story. The goofier the actors are, the less threatening/dangerous the villains (Surfer/Galactus) will appear to be. FF are characters that are up against beings, that are about to kill every living thing on Earth, it can't be taking lightly. It can't be a popcorn, fun, light-hearted film you all are glamouring for during those scenes.

This is why ARMAGEDDON movie is crap with great special effects.
