Do you use Twitter?

Twitter is mostly an informational tool.

Start with what you like.

Let's say it's Batman to make things simple.

In the search box, type in this word and see what you get.

Scroll down the list of tweets that include this word. You may find others who have something in what they wrote -- comment about the latest Brave & Bold episode or a link to something Batman-related that you click and find interesting.

If you find someone who does this, click on their account name and see all of their tweets and see if this is a fluke to make sure they're not a knucklehead or if they're consistent in posting something interesting to you.

In the top right corner of their account, there's a photo of the person or avatar of something, their username, where they're from and a link to something more about them. Click onto this and see if they have a blog or website or some other web presence. If it's Batman related and their Twitter name is Batman related, you've probably found someone you want to keep up with so you'd want to follow them.

And there's nothing wrong with writing back to the person via Twitter to say you enjoyed their posts about Batman.

You can also click on who they're following. You might discover other Batman-related Twitter accounts like DC Comics or Warner Brothers entertainment who post about Mr. Dark Knight.

Twitter is more about being helpful and posting interesting information to others via links and answering questions from others than "what's in it for me?"

I help out people on Twitter who need gift ideas for their kids by directing them to different products on my website. I gain and so do they.

I post links that have appeared on this MB and link news stories covered by Hype because I think they're interesting to those who follow me. How do I know? Because my posts have been RT'ed (re-tweeted) in which others post what you posted with your username in the post so their followers can see it (making your post somewhat viral).

I follow other small business website, t-shirt sites, search engine optimization specialists, marvel, dc, wb, zappos.com's CEO, and a few leading social media people. While I get most of those I follow a return follow, for my business my ideal follower is a young mom of boys who dig superheroes.

If you have nothing to say but you're progress across the day, don't want to share interesting links on things you like, don't want to help others, you're wasting your time with Twitter.

I'm sorry, could you please give a response in 140 characters or less?

I like Twitter.

It's something to read when I should be working.

Twitter must be like a stalker's wet dream.... "'just got done eating breakfast' huh? What'd ya have? Did you have some cereal? Yeah, I bet you had some cereal... and you loved it. Did ya have Trix... I love Trix too. Did you put milk on it? Yeah... you put that ****ing milk on it, and you drink it down. Nice and slow.... nice and slow."

What point is there to this Twitter, other than making yourself stalker bait?

I use Twitter because I like to follow sports' news, and the ESPN radio hosts who use Twitter update about sports and their opinion about it quite frequently. I have a few followers but I don't really feel like a stalker bait, because I mostly "tweet" about sports anyway and I don't do ridiculous blogs about what cereals I'm having. I don't even use my own picture in my profile. I also think it's interesting to follow celebrities like Megan Fox, and occasionally get to see what they are doing, if they feel like sharing. I had major reservation about Twitter before I joined but now I think it's just harmless fun.

I hate to play old person's advocate, but Twitter is just another reason/excuse for us not to have face-to-face interactions with each other. I'll probably shoot myself when all the Twitterers are elected to Congress.

It can be a useful tool for news agencies, political campaigns, etc., but there's no reason for any individual to have their own Twitter page.

You know, I'm warming up to Twitter a bit. Also, there is no Stockington the Cat, Marx is a liar.

I like Twitter alot more right now, esp. last night during the NBA Finals, and I was able to get Twitter updates from not only ESPN reporters, but also Jeanie Buss, daughter of Lakers' owner Dr. Jerry Buss. I couldn't watch the game so Twitter made it exciting for me just by reading all those news feed.

What do you mean you couldn't watch the game? Take down your avatar sir, for you are no Lakers fan

Haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know if this question has been asked before:

What Is The Point Of Twitter?

twitter is basically just a ripoff of the "status" thing on facebook.....

except for people who's ego is so big they think every thought of theirs is pure gold.

It's a tool for updates of what a person is doing or thinking about that day. Various celebs use it to keep up with fans and News channels use it as well.

I've been using it of late and it's pretty cool getting updates from celebs. I find I'm using it more then other social networks sites. I like the little updates from people, rather then going on their myspace or whatever.

Yeah, if you're an ass.

You got me:up:

Hope this makes you feel better about the rest of your day, actually why don't you just tell me your twitter name and I can find out how the rest of your day goes:down

Ironically, my twitter name is Wiseman. :o

On the whole, Twitter's abundantly filled with people who have nothing better to do than rabble on about stuff no one cares about. But I have to admit I use it to follow certain updates on films, TV shows and publications. It's helped to cut down my RSS feeds (Which i had 40+ off, now under 10). Following ComingSoon, AICN, JoBlo, FirstShowing, ProductionWeekly, /Film, Empire, TotalFilm etc. on Twitter for headlines now.

Good twitter-folk (as opposed to Kutcher's inane ramblings).
