Do your hobbies tend to be social or solitary activities?

I decided to start running on the weekends recently to keep myself occupied while certain friends have taken their yearly holidays and so forth.

a friend of mine asked if he could come with me and i told him 'no' that jogging was a 'me' thing i liked to do on my own. He said he missed running with a group of people etc...

this lead me to think about whether exercise is best achieved when performed on your lonesome or with someone else around.

That ultimately brought me to this.

So do the recreational activities you do tend to be things that you do on your own or mostly group based activities?

if you mix and match, give examples and tell me which you feel is more rewarding.

Cheers.

I guess drawing is the only hobby I have, which is of course, by myself. "All by myseeeellllf..."

Both.

Running, gym, weightlifting, swimming usually done on my own, or at most with a spotting partner with the weights.

Rock climbing - ranges from a few to large groups heading out to the Mournes usually, it's as much a social activity as it is a sport.

As for whether sport is better done with or without a person, it depends on why you're doing it. As I said, the climbing is as much about the social aspect as the sport, I keep fit enough in the gym, climbing is mainly for pleasure.

However, having someone with you in your exercise routine can lend an edge of competitiveness that would otherwise not be there, and may compel you to train harder and better.

Then of course - like yourself November Rain - sometimes I just want to be left the f**k alone to get on with it.

:D

I work out, alone at a public gym

Solitary activity, in a social setting......

What a rebel.

Drawing--usually alone, can be with one or two friends
Writing--alone. Always. I can't write in the company of others
Watching movies--usually social. Sometimes alone.
Rapping--social.

Even split

I don't understand why people go to great lengths to make convo at the gym... people do that to me all the time, and I'm like "i'm here to work out, then leave, not to jaw jack...."

The gym life is a lifestyle that many people choose. See the first act of "The Toxic Avenger" for details.

oh and would you guys consider coming on to the hype a social or solitary activity?

certain songs come on in my head when doing certain activities, especially exercise.

Other people tend to mess up my focus and hence how the song sounds in my head. It comes down to paying to much attention to their own natural rhythms.

meh

oh and being beaten doesn't help either :down:o

Being beaten like...at monopoly? or being beaten like with a switch?

Comics & Various Collections & Reading = Solitary

Karaoke, Dancing, etc. = Social

yeah, I'll make sure to do that inbetween reps....

I know this one guy, who goes to my gym, and he brags that he works out for 2.5 hours a day... I'm like "it's because you talk for over an hour of it"...... just don't make much sense to me... it is funny tho, to see this guys who think there hot ****, hit on some pretty actrative girls, and get yelled at....

My biggest hobby is Martial Arts, I teach it so that involves being social but others such as weight training, yoga, and running all involve solitude.

Yes, I admit it, I'm one of those crazy folk that get up on a stage in front of a microphone and pretend to think I can actually sing some of my favourite songs. ;)
