Hey I was looking into actually using an authorized music online store, yahoo, itunes or napster. But it appears that only Napster offers a subscription service for downloading songs.

iTunes is 99c. per song yahoo is 79 or 89c. per song which I wouldn't mind paying, if I could afford it but a subscription type service is far more appealing to me. Now Napster seems to offer that but I am a little confused by what their different offers say and state. * this little thing is what is cauing me the problems.

They have three subscriptions.

1) Napster to go membership which seems to offer the most

2) Napster membership- offers all but one feature

3) Napster light 99c. store- same as iTunes 99c. per song.

So if anyone uses Napster can you tell me the difference please? I am looking to download songs and keep them re-burn them, transfer them, and upload them to my MP3 players.

Do they all allow this? Or only one of the packages? I don't want to pay 9.99 a month or any fee if I can not keep the songs, download them or reuse them. If they have some system in place where you can only listen to the songs, burn them or reuse them a limited number of times forget it.

Was that the only thing you bought? :o

I use Napster Light.

i.e. I buy the $15 cards and go from there. Only because I have *I kid you not* 24 k at home so a membership would be wasted on me.

I thought Napster got cancelled b/c a few singers/bands sued it for releases their songs

now it's legal and generally sucks.

A while ago there was a hack to un DRM their music, so you could use the free trial to get everything you wanted and then cancel.

Now, not so much.

It's not worth it, they have very poor selection, and they charge too much. Best to torrent what you want.

Out of curiousity..doesn't using Torrents bring in a potential ad-ware/spy-ware/virus threat?

using that does it and so do Kazaa and Limewire, but some people think they're worth the risks.

People who pay for music are suckers

I meant torrents as a whole. :(

So basically what you guys are telling me/not telling is that there is no legit service on the net that offers a month subscription and you can download unlimited songs? You still have to pay per song?

The music industry sucks! It's not even the artists that are losing that much money it's the stupid ****ing record label owners that are already worth hundreds of millions of dollars. stupid rich white men!

I use torrents. I don't even use a virus protection software... I have been grabbing music and such for a couple years now. I have never had any trouble with anything.

Or don't want to get sued becuase they are on a network connected to thousands of computers and watched much more closely than individuals at home.

I haven't had trouble either, not one virus

Good for you. :(

We had viruses that weren't even professionally known to exist.
*My brother wants one named after him* :o

What sites do you use?

Limewire works perfectly for me. Completely legally, of course.

You can't get sued if you don't share your files.
It's scare tactics.

They can't catch you

There was no greater invention than Napster back in 2000.... I remember being on that site day after day downloading EVERY song I could think of.

I miss those days. :(

Hmph. Well the key when downloading torrents is to just look at the file. If it is a .rar file then it is probably best not to download it. But if you see only .mp3's within the file then you're all set. Also... most torrent sites have user comments below the torrent you chose to download. They will usually tell how good the quality and everything is and if there are any problems with the file. Most torrent sites have details of the torrent and what is within it... so you know what you're getting. I love torrent because I love downloading full albums rather than just single mp3's. Here are some good torrent websites...

Torrent Spy
New Nova
Iso Hunt
Torrent Reactor
Mininova
Torrent Box

Also... if you want an amazing torrent program to download the torrents in then go with uTorrent. It is amazing and takes up barely any system resources on your computer.

Torrents are perfectly safe.
Some torrent sites are not.
Torrents are also perfectly legal, by the way.
