Remember when Marvel and DC were pushing out Event after Event in the early part of the decade? Remember how drained we felt?

Its been a while since we had a DC Mega-Event (just to clarify my definition of Mega-Event: a company wide crossover event with LASTING implications on the current canon) and while I was never a fan of DC's reliance of the Multiverse concept to churn out such stories, I'd say they need one to sort of consolidate whatever gains they've made for the new 52.

Okay maybe I'm being a little cynical since most of the new 52 aren't even in the double-digit range of issue count and the said 52 is probably going to be trimmed to a more manageable title count.

That said, DC has been taking a beating in past few months. Marvel's going full throttle with its movie drive and has been pushing out some pretty awesome titles (with very very impressive art) using their current canon. I'm not expecting much from AvX but its got enough star-power to draw my initial interest.

Which begs the question: Does DC need an all-encompassing Mega-Event now or anytime soon. And if they did, what would you expect to see in it? Multiverse stuff? New Gods stuff? Superman stuff?

Let's have a good discussion guys/gals?

ya mayb they culd hav teh justice leag lik fight each other

I'd rather see DC take a while to build up to their next event (focused on Pandora) for quite a while before they go at it. Event after event after event gets irritating. Especially if the previous events aren't good (Fear Itself in particular).

I thought Flashpoint was only like 5-6 months ago and it had universe altering implications. Why not let this NDCU play out for a bit before an event? Also isn't Marvel having trouble keeping up with DC because of the line wide relaunch?

Didn't the relaunch of the titles essentially make the changes in Flashpoint kind of moot?

I was thinking something a little more lasting.

But yeah, Fear Itself was a pretty big letdown all things considered.

The relaunch was a direct result of the end of Flashpoint.

Flashpoint WAS a MEGA-Event, it destroyed their previous continuity and resat it with a completely new one-the DCnU is a completely new universe and only a few stories from the Post-Crisis DCU are canon, and most likely no Pre-Crisis stories are canon. Or they are, but not on the DCnU Earth (I personally consider all stories to have happened on some Earth somewhere). It just wasn't delayed for months because Kubert is a pro who can meet a deadline.

An event is the last thing DC needs right now. They need to build characters and situations again.

i wouldnt mind a big event that gets rid of all this DCnU 52 post-flashpoint crap.

Personally, I really hate big event books and skip them entirely. I buy Superman comics to see him fly around Metropolis, punch supervillains, and take part in well written stories with character development and science fiction wackiness and action. I read Batman to see him solve mysteries and go on awesome high tech ninja shenanigans either alone or with his crew. And I read Justice League to see them and other characters team up and interact with one another in big epic adventures that none could handle by themselves. Big mega-event like the various Crises don't factor into that at all, and actually kind of detracts somewhat from my enjoyment of the smaller, individual books (I didn't know or care what was happening when I read the Blackest Night tie-in in Secret Six, and kinda wanted my money back).

Something like a big world-ending alien invasion in the pages of JLA, or maybe a No Man's Land-style Batman story is about as close to an "event" book that I could find myself caring about after the concept has been so played out in recent years.

But that's my own personal taste. Trying to put that aside...

Truth. Way too early.

Way too early.

I agree, but with the "Pandora" character waiting in the curtains, when exactly do you guys feel is the best time to let rip a new event.

More importantly, what exactly would you want to see?

I for one am open to any story which doesn't have anything to do with the Multiverse or isn't too character-focused like Our Worlds at War, Amazon Attacks or the War of the Lanterns.

Um, DC pretty much did the absolute biggest event you could do in September.

I'd say we should be good with mega-events until next summer. Then it'll probably be time for another one.

I'd be content without another event book cropping up for years to come.

Y'know what, screw it, I'll just say never. It's not like I'd read it or care about it anyway.

I cannot stand 'event' books personally especially when they change continuity :down

So I don't want DC to do another event for a long time. I'm enjoying the new 52 I don't want it ruined by a crossover event

The next big event will come in a year or two...the event that resets everything back to status quo. Pandora is the Ctrl+Z waiting to happen.

XtremeImageDCnU ain't gonna last much longer. Like BuckyCa[ and Iron Spider, these gimmicks are temporary and one event sets back the status quo. This is the nature of the beast.

No, what DC need to do now, is completely forget about events ("Mega" or otherwise) and focus on writing decent comic books. Comic books that remind people why they like these characters to begin with.
It's this ****ing INSANE obsession with "events" and ever escalating threat that have put DC and Marvel both in the burnt out, very tired place they both currently occupy.

I'll be very happy if Marvel and DC both never do another event comic

But if they do I hope its at least not for a long time

What are you talking about? That seems to be more of a wish of yours than the truth, DC did this to atract new readers, to be able to reinvent things from scratch, Flashpoint was Crisis on Infinite Earths all over again, the old universe is gone, DEAL WITH IT!

But many things from that universe are still being used, Batman universe is basically the same with a few alterations, Green Lantern is the same, Superman is sufering a complete alteration in history, which i hope will last longuer, with Grant Morrison basically building the Superman mythology again.

Things won't go back to pre-Flashpoint, that would be dumb after all this, just read the books you enjoy and be glad that it wasn't a 100% reboot.

Remember when Justice League was an event style comic book so there didn't need to be a big event every year? That was cool.

I really hope Justice League improves with the next arc that last one was just awful

On a waffle :down

We need those days back! Hire mark Waid and focus less on turgid kitchen Sink melodrama and more on Universe-eating Suns!
