We know that Uncle Ben will die in the Amazing Spider-Man. However, based on early reviews I have read, I am beginning to get the impression that the filmmakers are skipping over the "Peter failed to stop a thief who ends up killing Uncle Ben" angle. Does anyone know if they are still going with that or is it just a random robbery? Anyone who saw an advanced screening and can shed some light on this? Thank you.

Yes. It's not portrayed as it has been in the past. He sees him robbing a register and doesn't stop him from getting caught and then refuses to stop him from getting away or help the guy chasing him. Peter is within earshot when Ben is shot.

Isn't that kinda the same thing?

Dude, just watch the movie and find out. Why do you want to know everything that's gonna happen before going in?

Possibly they st it up so he'll meet up with the killer in a sequel if he doesn't catch him in this film

I wouldn't be shocked if the killer ends up being a super baddie in the next film.

To me (and this is just my humble opinion) Peter CATCHING the murderer isn't as important as his realization that the guy he didn't stop went on to kill his uncle. As long as the lesson is there, then I'm fine with whatever small changes they make.

Agreed. As long as the key bits are there, then happy days. I'm very intrigued to see how this version is done :)

There's a subtle note in the origin that gets buried beneath "With great power..." When Spider-Man first goes after the burglar, he's got revenge in his heart. This criminal took Ben away from him, and Spidey's going to catch him and then who knows what might happen. When Spidey sees who the criminal is, it rips that hot-headedness right out of him when he realizes his role in the tragedy (note that this is the one thing SM1 got dreadfully wrong, when Peter lets the burglar fall to his death instead of saving him).

I think that note could get lost in this interpretation. We'll see.

I do not agree with this.

This is the mistake I had with Spider-Man 3 since Spidey let the killer, Marko, go. For one, Sandman should have been taken into custody for the things he had done in the movie, but he still killed Uncle Ben and he did escape prison because he didn't think he was "a bad person" even though he did kill someone.

In SM 3 spidey forgives Marko and let's him go, but still should have handed his ass to the authorities or had him turn himself in for the crimes committed

What Spectacular Spider-man did was kind of interesting.

Though really, there seem to be no coincidences in Peter Parker's universe.

Facing a supervillain as Spider-man? Odds are he's your home room teacher from middle school.

I only wanted to know that it happens. I wasn't neccessarily looking for how it goes down. Having Peter failing to stop the thief who kills Uncle Ben therefore learning a lesson is a pretty big deal. For some reason I had an irking feeling that they were skipping over that part and just have Uncle Ben get killed by randomly. Stupid, I know, but still I wanted to make sure. I posted the question because, to be honest, if they took that out, it would turn me off from wanting to see the film. Now I'm good to go and find everything else out.

And like TSSM, I would have been totally fine with Marko being the killer if we saw him in the first film.
