I never felt once that optimus LEAD the autobots in this outing. Not one Great moment where there is despair and the autobots feel overwhelmed and defeated so optimus stands and gives the speech of a lifetime to all the autobots maybe before raiding the city and he gives the most heroic and encouraging speech. Then he dishes out ORDERS which he actually never really does. it seems they just rush into situations and fight and he's taking orders from the humans rather than them listening to him.

I dont think Michael Bay actually ever watched a transformers episode and was just handed the job for his visual style.

Optimus would have maybe sent certain units on recon, some on scouting, and some to be on the front line of defense. i mean like an actually military leader and not like a big bro or home boy who just has good ideas and since he's the oldest they follow him.

I just needed Optimus prime to really be a PRIME. EVen megatron showed more leadership throughout the series.

I really needed that final hour to have one moment when optimus spills his heart out and gets them pumped for a battle they may not survive but die fighting. He should have given the ultimate line of how every movie has been about saving humans, but this one it was personal which i never quite felt,

Also for optimus to say "KILL THEM ALL" he could have told them why they have to rather than just coming off as ruthless as megatron. I understand he had been pushed to that point but i never once felt him SNAP or go over the edge with his temper...maybe after iron hide is destroyed optimus looses it as that is one of his long time friends and associates and they did NOTHING in regards to that. its like not even mentioned as if we havent seen iron hide for three movie. smh...anyway i just feel bay misused the robots in this movie. he may have fixed certain human issues he had on the last go, but he still cant get the transformers and their character development down

Don't see why he needs to explain "kill them all" when the Decepticons just tried to kill them, have killed hundreds of civilians, practically destroyed Chicago, and have killed Autobots. Plus, he's standing in the middle of a war zone. A speech would have been cool. But, it was pretty clear why they had to "kill them all." If it was the first film, out of the blue saying that? That would be one thing - but this time there's A LOT of history, thereby it's been explained already.

They should have let Josh Duhamel lead

yeah I'm going to agree with this 100%. After watching the Decepticons go all War of the Worlds on Chicago not to mention Lazerbeak assassinating everyone, we don't need a speech from Optimus we know why they need to kill them all. If Optimus would have gave a speech then it would have been eyeball rolling inducing because it is something that doesn't need to be said. These Autobots are soldiers they know what to do.

Kill them all means take no prisoners which is not prime's style as he has always been conflicted at being at ends with his "brothers" and he has a code of honor and in that sense an honorable leader wouldnt really scream kill them all out of nowhere...he would probably say something more fitting as "autobots, we must stop them by all means...this must be the deciding battle of this war...I wish it were not as so...but (gives speech on brotherhood, and revolution) autobots...roll out"

if it was clear they had to kill them all then he didnt need to say it. simply "we finish this here and now, today..." it was lazy script writing and hearing optimus say all that was cringe worthy. Now if sentinel killed iron hide infront of optimus at the end and optimus snaps...it would make sense, but a leader who always keeps his composure as optimus does would use a more honorable choice of words and we would have a lot more convo between him and his troops reminding them of why they must do what they must

i mean they had humans giving autobots orders as well as giving decepticons orders...hell even the blonde girl gets to manipulate the LEADER OF THE DECEPTICONS who would have had no reason to listen to her AT ALL lol...he'd have squished her on the spot. why would he have had mercy on her?

he DID organize their fake deaths....

Did he? I didnt see that, maybe you watched a directors cut copy or something cause from what i got "they faked their deaths" and not necessarily optimus having the plan of executions. Why was their rarely ever any dialogue if any between the autobots and not just in the heat of battle?

They should have let Josh Duhamel lead

they were so busy killing off important transformers it would have been cool if he died...ifd have given this movie an 8 instead of a 6

well i assume those brainless moron robots wouldnt be capable of coming up with that plan... the other autobots (in the first movie) made it clear that they dont care for humans, and optimus had to convince them that humans are worth saving... thus why he came up with the fake deaths plan (to help humans realize they cant give in to tyranny)

but yeah i dont ever even remember him giving a single line of dialoge to any of the autobots...

He ordered the Wreckers to create a diversion.

Optimus needed to dish out orders to all the autobots and not quite suggestions. I never felt the military ranks throughout the autobots. Where does bumble stand. is he opimus's right hand general or is iron hide? i mean RANK...like how tyrese was organizing his band's every move with recon etc...optimus was handled poorly in that department

besides the cringe worthy "KILL THEM ALL".

Id have prefered if the US government realized they had ****ed up and finally gave optimus prime full control of the situation and we get to see what he is really made of as he leads the entire revolution and shows why he is the leader, and not just cause he's the biggest smh

Which pretty much sums most of the criticism from fans since 2007. These movies aren't classic Transformers, they're just loosely based on them.

Didnt he say on the first movie's bluray he went for 2 days to hasbro and got a "transformers education"? Translation means he didnt hear a damn thing and just looked at toys and thought how cool it would be to blown them up.
