Don't Touch Me: Untouchable Remakes

Imagine if they remade The Warriors. :(

Didn't they already try?

What? I have never heard anything of the sort.

It never went through, but there were talks of a remake a few years ago if I recall. I'll look for the links.

It is interesting to note how many films that are getting listed are based on books/literary works, making them ripe for constant re-adaptation actually, and how some of the films aren't even totally faithful to the books they are adapted from in the first place so that leaves open the chance for future films made from that material to be different from those movies.

I read the thread title and thought this was going to be a movie about the Duggars.

The Shining really shouldn't be done again, even if there are significant differences between the book and the film. The changes that were made were smart ones. And if I want the book's story than I just read the book. I'd rather focus on getting a proper adaptation of The Stand. And IT. And Salem's Lot. And...

Har de har har.

So I would have put Poltergeist on here, but ya know Hollywood. :whatever:

Well they did do it again as a miniseries.

Is this really a question of degrees more than a hard and fast rule? Like, if they remade the silent film WINGS would ya'll really be outraged or give an airborne copulation? Just saying, is it "No Remakes!" full stop or is it, "No Remakes of things that I am familiar with and/or like an have an emotional/nostalgic connection to"?

They could remake the most obscure film in history and there would still be a few dozen nerds online b****ing endlessly about Hollywood.

See that's my take though... "Seems like". I don't know the metrics off hand. Are there hard numbers to back this up? Honest question. And then when you take those modern numbers (say how many films are "reboots/re-makes") and compare them to the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's is it really all that different? And when we take into account things that are just heavily influence by earlier entertainments of one time or another it gets even hazier. I mean, we can all talk about Star Wars as this beloved cultural force, no pun, but forget that it's a pastiche almost of the serials from the 30's/40's/50's, WWII films, Western folklore and myth and nice sprinkling of Eastern philosophy and mysticism.

I think that a lot of this comes down to the post 60's cultural obsession with "authenticity" and "originality" for what ever reasons, while turning a blind eye to the idea that each successive generations always rehash and reinterpret stories, and that the way Hollywood (and the culture at large, cuz SOMEBODY is choosing to see the TMNT and TRANSFORMER films in greater numbers than say seeing Tome Cruise in EDGE OF TOMORROW) is choosing to go to the well of the past is just the modern incarnation of this phenomenon.

Rambo First Blood Part 1
Any Chuck Norris movie.
Any Sylvester Stallone movie.

Is there a movie coming out this summer that's original that you are genuinely looking forward to? Sometihng that ain't a remake, reboot, sequel or adaptation?

Also some Christopher Nolan movies.
