Acting on behalf of Arab nations, Qatar circulated a draft U.N. Security Council resolution Thursday demanding Israel end its offensive in the Gaza Strip and release the Palestinian officials it has arrested. The draft faced immediate opposition from the United States and France, which called it unbalanced in its criticism of Israel.

An unbalanced criticism? A few extremists kidnapped an Israeli soldier and Israel retaliates by bombing an entire country? Israel needs to be told to stop.

Wait, Qatar is in the UN?......wait Qatar is a country?

Nothing new here. All supposed Israel offences are among the first things looked at by the UN every year.

All Hamas has to do is return the soldier's body. He's probably dead, but if not I'm almost guarenteed he's probably highly mutilated by now.

I might be uninformed here, but isn't Hamas supported by their government?

Hamas is the government of Palestine.

Do you know anything about the Human Rights Council history? All it did was tell Israel to stop and it ignored every other violation pratically that's why it had no credibility this new council seems to be following in its footsteps and some of the countries on it are one to talk about Human Rights.. It's just the Muslim voting block going after the Israel. I'm speaking of the UN HRC because that is where this whole resolution started. US will probably veto this though...

"A few extremists" ? Please Hamas is the government now they can't hide behind that bull**** anymore. The people of Palestine voted in Hamas knowingly, voting is a responsibility as well as a right. Hamas has had an Israel destruction plan the whole time and that hasn't changed (Hamas has denied signing that new two state peace plan that had been lauded in the Media a couple days ago). The People of Palestine are completely responsible for their Government's action and most of the support it. Where should Israel have attacked? Since we all know Hamas never sets up bases in civilian areas.

I honestly am conflicted about what Israel should have done in this situation. I would genuinely like to hear your thoughts on how they should have reacted to the kidnapping...

Alright so let me make sure I have this right

Palestine votes for Hamas
Hamas kills Israelis
Isreal bombs Palestine

I'm not seeing the problem here

Yeah. Served them right for not returning the soldier. All they needed to do was return the solitary soldier and Israel won't have a good reason to blow up thousands of Palestinian citizens. Now look what they have done. Stupid Palestinians. Hope they won't try to kidnap a ranking officer next!

They shouldn't have kidnapped him in the first place. If you don't want a neighbouring government to attack you, don't give them a reason to do so.

That's how I am looking at it currently... I have always said that these elections were a referendum on how they(the palestinians) felt about Israel...

That being said Israel has used miltiary force against Hamas and Hamas is still here and Hamas has kept on bombing Israel but the jews aren't going anywhere either. One side has to give a bit.

Though one thing that annoys me is that people keep calling Palestine a country ..well if your fricking Gov't kidnaps another country's soldier that's a cause for war seeing as the Soldier was kidnapped in Israel proper.. Palestinians need to either declare this a war or not..

It sure as hell seems like a war to me. And collateral damage occurs in every war.

Besides what kind of fantasy world are some of you living in anyway? Innocents are killed in war all of the time.

Hamas doesn't have to declare war because they have always been at war with Israel, right from its inception.

And they say Israel dehumanizes ...

So thousands of palestinian citizens have been killed in this incursion? Your source please....

Hamas has been planning this for months (how long do you think that tunnel took to build). Israel has been cleared of the beach explosion by most independent sources so that can't be used against them.

I believe Israel needs to negogiate(sp?) but who the hell are they going to negogiate with? Fatah has no power and Hamas refuses to recognize Israel's exisitence so... maybe we should get that cleared of first.

The bridge being bombed by Israel was so the "terrorists" read : palestinian government, couldn't escape with the soldier.

Like I asked Matt; what should Israel have done?

Well I'm just glad that whole "they don't represent the majority of palestinians" speel we get has been thrown out the window with these last elections...

Oh, how stupid of me! Of course the Israeli government was totally justified in nuking the entire coastal area, killing Palestinians civilians over one military personnel! Will you ever forgive me?

Israel has been negotiating, that's why Gaza and the West Bank have been cleared so that the Palestineans could have it as agreed to in their latest agreement. The problem is that the moment Israel gives up something from their side, the Palestineans feign ignorance that anything has been agreed to and starts the negotiation over as if they're back to square one.

It's all about driving Israel to the sea anyway possible.

DM, I have a lot respect for you so how about we debate this like adults. Just being sarcastic makes it seem like dont really have anything to back up your arguements

I understand your position that Israel doesn't have the right to defend itself, no matter what, but I disagree.

If the Palestineans don't want Israel incursions, don't give Israel a reason to do one. It's very simple. You don't see Israel attacking Palestineans for no reason.

Okay, I apologise. That was juvenile of me.

Now, the recent invasion of Gaza by the military forces of Israel in a bid to recover a single military personnel. Justified?
