007 will be drinking Heineken in Casino Royale. The only time I recall Bond even mentioning drinking beer is in GoldenEye ("Last call James." "Buy me a pint") - also directed by Martin 'Real men drink beer' Campbell.

Not criticism, just observation.

I sense ridiculous hiny jokes coming...

The thread title makes me laugh :D .

This Bond is a Man's Man

I can't wait to read the Craig bashers' "opinions" on this :(

In order for me to bash something, it would mean that I care about it. Once I heard of the Craig casting, I knew this wasn't 007 but an ersatz version of Bond and thus didn't care. This new information is no surprise to me, since Bond drinks vodka martinis. Its just further evidence that this film isn't about Bond, but rather just about a british spy.

Before people freak out ("Bond drinks beer?! Heresy!"), I need to say it's not true.

Bond does *not* drink Heineken in CASINO ROYALE. Heineken is just one of the sponsors, as it has been for the Brosnan Bond films (with numerous TV advertisements). It's only a promotional deal.

And yes, Bond drinks the vodka martini in CASINO ROYALE. It actually, as in Fleming's novel, gets a pretty big moment to shine. Should be fantastic.

Blasphemy!

If you watch one of those video blogs, there's a part where Bond tells a waiter, "Dry martini, please."

It could be part of the "grooming" of Bond. Don't forget, this is Bond's origin story. Maybe he grows to like martinis over the course of the story.

To iterate this point firmly and boldly so that nobody misses it:

BOND DOES NOT DRINK A HEINEKEN IN CASINO ROYALE!

Now that my gross, bold, and somewhat obnoxious statement is overwith, let me explain. As I stated above, Bond does not drink beer in CASINO ROYALE - it's a big misunderstanding of the news report that Heineken is a sponsor of CASINO ROYALE (Heineken has long been a sponsor of the franchise - even as far back as THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, I believe). It has a joint advertising campaign with CASINO ROYALE, including a commercial featuring Eva Green. However, Bond never drinks it.

And Bond likes martinis from the beginning of the film - he's never introduced to it, rather, he introduces everybody else to it. There's no real "grooming of Bond" in terms of tastes; his taste for the high life is evident from the very beginning of the film.

I remember in Dr. No his drink of choice was a gin and tonic.
