Dumb & Dumber 2-Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Return

Carrey just looks weird nowadays when he tries to make his rubber facial contortions. It's like he's too old and trying too hard to be his former self.

Man, the hate in this thread for this movie (and for Carrey) is disturbing and almost irrational.

Well lets see...

Jim Carey is a giant *****e who hasn't had a hit film in over 10 years. He bashes a movie he was in (Kick Ass 2) after reading the script, filming it, and doing post production because he is against violence. They had tried to make this movie before and Carey withdrew himself...then Burt Wonderstone came out HA.

The Farrely brothers have also been in a decade long slump with great movies such as The Three Stooges, Hall Pass, The Heartbreak Kid, Fever Pitch...such great movies.

Why even make a sequel to a 20 year old movie? I will watch this only because of nostalgia but I have no hopes for this. It smells like a cash cow to me. If it's great, I will be happy. If it's a train wreck...I saw it coming. There is absolutely no reason to get a pants tent over this movie.

Anymore, hate governs all of the threads here.

Yup. This used to be such an awesome place around 2003-2007. Either the posters are getting younger, or their lives are getting crappier and they're taking it out on strangers anonymously (like 90% of the Internet anyway).

This part was the red flag for me. You're on a website that hypes:

Transformers 4
Star Wars: Episode 7
Avengers 2 (Technically "Marvel 10")
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Technically Spider-Man 5)
Superman/Batman (Batman 8 and Superman 7)
Avatar 2, 3, 4 being filmed back-to-back-to-back.

This whole place is basically CashCowHype.com. A low-budget comedy sequel (Part 2, mind you) is the least of our worries here.

Nor is there a reason to knock it.

Yes there is...I just listed two of them: Carey *****e turd and Farrely cash cow. So far the first pic of them on set has them looking like they are 50 years old. So that makes 3. How the movie turns out, well we all will have to wait and see. Until then...it's open season.

And people eat it up for whatever reason. Hollywood is dead. I will say though...JJ Abrams Star Wars has me at slight pants tent chub level.

And people are also entitled to their opinions. People are allowed to look at a sequel in a positive/negative right, and also have the right to openly discuss their positive or negative opinion on the film in question. I never got this mentality some people have, as if you can't have a negative opinion and share it and all these threads have to be positive discussions about the film in question. Personally, I am inclined to agree with the idea that a sequel to this isn't necessary (but I will go see it hoping it is good because I liked the 1st one). I don't see anything wrong with saying that.

Most of the sequels are not really necessary. But I think sometimes there's nothing wrong in taking a nostalgia trip to one of this old, semi-classic movies that became a cult over time.
It's up to each of us to give them our money if we think the movie is worth it.
I believe there's something interesting about revisiting this characters again, after all this time.

Carey and Daniels look old because they are old. I couldn't care less about this film and think that it is a desperate cash grab but I don't get complaining about the obvious as if it is somehow surprising. News flash Carey and Daniels were 32 and 39 respectively in 1994 so of course they are old in 2013.

Few movies have made me laugh as much as Dumb & Dumber. It's my favorite Farrelly brothers' movie (much funnier than There's Something about Mary). It's still as funny as it was in 1994, unlike other movies that have aged poorly.

I really hope this sequel lives up to the standard set by the original, but considering the Farrelly brothers haven't made me laugh in a decade and I can't even remember the last time Carrey was in a comedy and Daniels was even in a movie, I'm not optimistic.

I think the type of humor Carrey made in the 90's has no room now. It's all Apatow-style and there hasn't been a truly good slapstick goofy comedy in a long time. Yes Man is the closest Jim has made to his 90's movies, and it wasn't that bad! And I Love You Phillip Morris was a great movie too.
I don't know, all I'm saying is let's wait and judge the thing when it arrives! Then we'll know if they really tried to do something special or not.

I'm really not a fan of Apatow-style comedies either, though. I think there's still room for Lloyd and Harry, but only if they're done right (and like I said, I'm not highly optimistic it will be).

Comedies are not what they used to be, really. Now it's all swearing and fast-talking. I miss good comedies with great scripts like Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. They don't make them like that anymore.

Apatow just seems to make stoner sex-comedies. There's about 4 or 5 Apatow (or Apatow-style comedies) that have completely interchangable plots, characters and jokes.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin is the only one of his comedies that I can rewatch over and over again. I think it has the right amount of good jokes, toilet humour, and a sweet side of the story.

Yeah, comedies aren't what they used to be, unfortunately.

That being said, I still love every Apatow movie I've seen, and adore This is the End.

How does Carrey speaking out against violence in his own movie making him a *****e? It just makes him honest. And I'd rather him be honest than fake.

These actors are older now. What are you asking them to do, turn back time?

Cash cow? Maybe, but it's a belated sequel from an almost 20 year old movie that had sequel talks for years. If it was a real cash cow it would be on its fifth film by now.

Your arguments aren't very well kept.

Nobody is telling anybody to turn back time. They're saying that a sequel has been too long to be relevant, hence, the age in the actors now.

So it's only a cash cow if a movie has had over 5 movies in the series? Not that the sequel is just now coming out 20 years later with both the actors and directors/writers track record? Hmmm, funny way of looking at it, I guess?

I feel it makes him a *****e cause he read the script, shot the movie, and cashed the paycheck. THEN he spoke out against the movie and its violence even though he knew all along what kind of film it was. If he TRULY felt bad he coulda donated the bulk, if not all, of his paycheck to benefit the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting

Thats just me though

To be fair, he did read and shoot most(if not all:huh:) of that movie before the Sandy Hook incident. But yes, if he felt that bad about it all, he should have donated, at least, a large portion of his earnings to the cause. Maybe he did? I dunno, but he was all about speaking against it....

Usually when a celebrity donates a large amount to a "in-the-news" cause they tell everybody, or it at least gets out other ways.

So I doubt he donated any at all

I doubt Carrey filmed Kick-Ass 2 with the opinion that violence is bad. People are allowed to change their opinions, it doesn't make them *****es.
