Dumb and Dumber Sequel.

First up, here’s what Jim Carrey told ComingSoon (and we’re taking this quote as if it was delivered with a straight face, which is how CS presents it):

We’re talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about …There’s Bruce Almighty and we’re talking about maybe another Dumb and Dumber.

The idea of a new sequel to the 1994 comedy hit Dumb and Dumber isn’t all that outlandish, because we’ve heard about it before, from one of the directors. Earlier this year, Bobby Farrelly told Moviehole,

If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel.

So: have at it. Does this seem like a proper career step, or a nostalgic ploy to recapture an old audience?

I would love to see Jim and Jeff come back for a sequel.

Eh, too little, too late, IMO. Even if Carrey actually is willing to do it - which I find kinda sad in its own way - odds are it'll be yet another twenty-years-after-the-fact sequel that isn't gonna end up going over all that well.

Agreed. I remember when Jim Carrey said he would never make a sequel to any of his movies after Ace Ventura 2 because he craved to play only new characters. If he had an inkling to play these characters again it should've been in the late 90's at the peak of his fame when rumors of Mask 2 and Dumb and Dumber 2 were high.

I think it's a great idea, I'm all for revisiting old characters and seeing where life has taken them.

I would love Carrey to play Lloyd Christmas again; love it.

Upon hearing this news I've just told my office collegues about it [some of the most average people you can imagine, thereby representing the general audience] and they are all jazzed by it. 18 years ago and its still held in high regard.

Common consensus is that Lloyd still has to have the bowl cut though.

If this was 99 or 2000 I would be excited but jeff daniels is too serious of an actor now to do this and jim carrey just isnt as funny as he used to be.
