Dumb & Dumber 2-Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Return

Carrey and daniels both being well into middle age somehow makes me think this will actually look kind of sad.

There has been a sequel to The Mask titled "Son of the Mask." It stars Jamie Kennedy and is in fact as bad as it sounds.

Need I say more?
If you read my post I mention that particular abomination

Dumb and Dumber To is up for grabs.

The planned sequel to one of the 1990s biggest comedies has been in the works for years at New Line Cinema. But now sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that New Line parent Warner Bros. is declining to move forward and will allow the project be shopped to other studios.

Warners lost interest & now sources say the studio sees only a limited upside in a follow-up and is unwilling to give it the greenlight, despite a budget in the low $30 million range. (The decision comes in the wake of the poor March performance of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, the Steve Carrel-Steve Buscemi comedy that had Carrey as a featured co-star. That movie also cost in the $30 million range but grossed only $22 million domestically.)

The Farrellys now will seek a new financier and distributor for the project. If a suitor comes forward, New Line still would get a licensing fee and a share of back end.

The odds were already low prior to that announcement. Now, there's a snowball's chance in hell.

Good.

I'm not surprised. I fear for Carrey's career, because he hasn't had a legit successful leading role in years. He's got Kick-Ass 2 and Anchorman 2 coming up, and Burt Wonderstone tanked. He's not the lead in any of these. :csad:

Carrey will fade into obscurity (I guess he kinda already has been doing that), but he will return with a critically acclaimed performance in a drama like Eddie Murphy. I'm going to call it now.

Yeah, aren't the Farrelly Brothers pretty much Fox directors?

He's actually wonderful in dramas or serious films, Man on the Moon comes to mind and he was fantastic in it, one of the best performances of his career.

This would have been great 15 years ago. Which is about the last time Carrey made me laugh. Also the last time the Farrelly brothers made me laugh. Now I just think they should just leave it alone. I lost my confidence in all the talents involved.

Oh it's a moot point. I see the movie's been scrapped. Good.

Exactly. Jim Carrey is phenomenal in dramas. He should do more and try to get an Oscar nomination.

You, sir, win the entire thread for the most appropriate gif I've seen in recent memory.

This didn't get posted on here yet? Universal finally picked up the flick.

Universal Pictures has closed a deal for domestic distribution on Dumb And Dumber To, the sequel to the classic comedy that brings back Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, with Peter and Bobby Farrelly directing their rewrite of the script by Sean Anders and John Morris. Wolf Of Wall Street financier Red Granite is stepping up to finance the $35 million budget film and sell foreign territories. Deadline reported this is how it would likely go after Warner Bros finally stepped away from the project, after hovering over it like a dark cloud since January. That studio will retain a participation stake in the film, but its exit made all this possible.

All this is going down as we speak, and now the scheduling will begin for a movie that will find its way into production very quickly, with Conundrum’s Bradley Thomas and The Farrellys producing with Charlie Wessler. The film will be PG-13 like the original, and once again it puts Lloyd (Carrey) and Harry (Daniels) back on a road trip. The urgency has to do with scheduling: Daniels needs to do it soon before returning for his Aaron Sorkin HBO series The Newsroom. Carrey also has that bank heist comedy at Relativity with Jared Hess directing and Owen Wilson co-starring. For physical comedy fans, this is a real win. The package was put together by CAA and WME, and attorneys Cindy Farrelly Gesner and Peter Grossman repped the Conundrum troika.

I stand by my quote that i apparently posted here more than a year ago haha.

Love the first movie so much. If they get a good script, I'm sure Carrey can eat this up.

Brilliant news, the original is easily my favourite Carrey film, cannot wait!
