Dumb & Dumber 2-Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Return

I saw it last night. It wasn't as bad as I feared it would be, but at the same time not nearly as good as I hoped it might be when it was first announced. Like, I really did appreciate the effort and I think the movie had its heart in the right place. It tried to honor the original while also being its own thing. They couldn't quite recapture the magic, but I'm still glad I got to see them try. The spark was occasionally there, but it's fleeting. A lot of it felt like it was trying too hard, whereas somehow in the first one it always felt natural no matter how ridiculous it got. If you evaluate it as a 2014 Farrelys effort, it's probably above average. In the end it just makes me appreciate the original that much more.

That said, there were definitely a few moments that got me. In particular
the gag where they follow the return address back to Freda's LOL

Penny stole it for me. The chick that plays her feels like the offspring of one of them so much it's eerie. And she's insanely cute.

She was ****ing hot and too cute. It was distracting.

Yeah she was one of the highlights she reminded me a lot of Kelly from Married with Children as far as her character was played.

I have not seen this film yet. So it's not as quotable as the first one I take it?

I am so scared to see this.

Dumb & Dumber might be my favorite comedy of all time. This looks like its Caddyshack II. :(

And besides M. Night Shyamalan, few directors have gone downhill as much as the Farrelly bros. It's kind of baffling how the same duo that gave us Dumb & Dumber and There's Something About Mary also churned out the crap that they have the last decade (and I can't even recall the names of).

Give it time. The first had 20 years in people's minds. This one has enough good stuff. It's the same writers, so there are some good lines in there.

-I'm Dr Christmas
-Oh, like the holiday
-Haha...no. Like the tree

I had a smile on my face the whole time. It's hit or miss but there's so many jokes that your bound to laugh about something. This could have gone badly but I thought these guys still had the charm. It's fun to watch them together. This is also the only film I can think of where your rooting for the characters to be dumber. Its a good time. Maybe not as great as the original but really good for a comedy sequel to a 20 year old film. I can't imagine fans being too dissapointed. also butthole is the perfect name for a cat.

When you see this, this title will make so much more sense.

I enjoyed it for what it was! It was NEVER in a billion years going to top the original, but it's probably the Farrelly's most enjoyable film since Me, Myself, and Irene. The third act was very hit and miss, but the first two acts had me smiling all the way through. Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey are so perfect as a comedy duo and that magic is once again there.

I'd give it a solid 8/10 just because it was so wonderful seeing Carrey and Daniels again.

The original is probably my favorite movie off all-time. With that being said, I did enjoy this movie even though it's nowhere near as good as the original. Like others have said, jokes were hit or miss, but I won't deny that it was fun to see Lloyd and Harry again.

7/10

The gag that got the most laughs at my screening was the [BLACKOUT]wrong address scene[/BLACKOUT].

All in all, my audience was laughing a lot.

The obituary said he was survived by his parents.

Daaamn, it beat Interstellar? Well done.

And I thought the film was hilarious. There's no use in comparing it to the original, which had 20 years to marinate into public consciousness. This had some great laugh out loud moments and excellent lines, like "the obituary said he was survived by his parents" HAHA. The pork chop bit at the end had me rolling too. It's a great sequel.

AND the lottery bit was classic.

"I had all the numbers but they were in the wrong order"
*crumbles 38 million dollar winning ticket and tosses it out the window*

Did anyone else think this was Lloyd's show? Yeah, everyone thinks Lloyd is the funnier one, but he had the majority of funny lines/moments in this.

Probably, but Harry is the one where he bounces back. Without Harry there's no Lloyd, which is why they work so well together.

This wasn't nearly as good as I thought it would be but it was funny enough. Some gags fell flat but overall it was an admirable try.

This movie isn't all that great but it's weird that you don't like comedy movies. Everyone needs to laugh. I don't want to watch a super serious drama all the time you know.

I watch them sometimes they just aren't my cup of tea sometimes. I like to watch serious stuff.

What makes you laugh?

Just to barge in on this conversation, I'm hard to please when it comes to comedy, and I thought D&D2 was fantastic. Best comedy I've seen in years. This movie had jokes. :yay:

My problem is that I'm really not into this whole Judd Apatow / Hangover crew. It's a shtick that has ruined comedy for me, and that's the majority of what we get anymore. It's one thing if Zach Galifanakis is playing a quirky or zany character, but he's not SAYING anything funny... he's just BEING a funny person. That doesn't make me laugh. That's why I loathe his stand-up comedy.

So Dumb and Dumber 2 was a HUGE breath of fresh air for me, and it definitely felt like the old school comedies of the 80s and 90s. It also TOTALLY captured the tone of the original, and for me, it might actually be the greatest comedy sequel ever made. (Caddyshack 2? Ghostbusters 2? The Hangover?).

Yeah, I agree on that part too. It was classic comedy.

Can someone pls cam this damn movie?. Good Lord. I have to wait till January to see this thing. It's not fair :(

Basically humor nowadays, from cartoons to kids to movies, has become about random abstract humor, not from actual funny stuff as you said. Some guy saying "I like waffles" can turn into a ****ing meme.

Exactly. This is why I can't watch The Office, and I can't watch the majority of what's on TV or what's in cinemas.

I think the last movie that actually made me laugh before Dumb and Dumber To was I Love You Man... from 2009. :csad:
