Dumb & Dumber 2-Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Return

I did appreciate the attempt to make an old school comedy. There were definitely some real laughs here. Just not enough of them, IMO.

I do wonder if seeing this in a crowded theater would've added to the experience though (I went to a late showing at a small theater).

I posted this at IMDB and I'll post it here:

This is something that hit me after seeing the film and dwelling on how quickly the plot jumped into motion after the opening scene.

So, Lloyd fakes being a vegetable for 20 years. Think of all the ways the world has changed since 1994. The Internet. Smart phones. Social media. And yet, Lloyd seems to adjust perfectly fine to the outside world after Harry frees him from the mental hospital.

I think a lot of great humor could have derived from Lloyd being thrown headlong into the 21st century and encountering this new technology and these forms of communication and interaction for the first time. Instead, he uses a cell phone with ease and doesn't blink at the mention of Fraida tracking down her daughter on the Internet. In the end, it just feels like a wasted opportunity.

whilst i see what you are saying and agree with you to an extent, Lloyd, as 'dumb' as he is, was still aware of the world around him - probably got sat in front of a TV most of the time, Harry would explain things to him - who knows he probably even had moments of alone time where he read through the magazines and what not - i think they were careful not to go too 'modern' as then maybe you would lose some of the charm and innocence of the original.
The mobile he had was pretty simple as it was and in my opinion, Lloyd - he probably wouldn't care for much of the modern technology around him - just look at their home and his life style in the original. Also - i think once you start explaining one new thing, everything else would have to be explained, 9-11, obama care, etc etc.

They are in their own little world.

I personally loved the movie - it made me smile. A 3rd movie should def be made.

Oh, i didn't know there was an acs. :csad:

Oh well, just another reason to see it again :cwink:

So yall didn't find 21 or 22 jump street funny? I very rarely laugh out loud in movies but those two movies got me big time. Super bad, Hangover 1, 40 year old virgin also got me.

Some comedies effect people in different ways, what one finds funny others may not.

My favorite comedy of all time is dumb and dumber...was afraid to watch this because I thought for sure they would ruin this by rehashing jokes, going more crude to match up with the recent humor in films, and that the time had passed on Carrey and Daniels to genuinely pass as these characters again....and unfortunately I was correct. Apart from some funny scenes such as the lottery ticket...this movie fell flat and the jokes were more miss than hit. The worst part was Frieda getting so much screen time in the end and the opening prank and final prank were major stretches...also the discussion on sex at the end and the bush league jokes were horrific to watch.
Completely bummed out.

Who said that? 21/22 JS are amongst my all time favorite comedies, and i love 40YOV and Superbad. However, I truly despise the Hangover movies.

Even if there wasn't anything funny being said, I couldn't stop smiling at Jim Carrey's movements and facial expressions.

I recently downloaded the D&D2 soundtrack and realized there were a lot of songs missing. I found a more comprehensive list of songs used in the film on another website and I was wondering if anyone could help me determine what scenes the following songs were used in the movie:

- Little Girl – Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real
- Things Will Change – Treetop Flyers
- The Rabbit’s Nose – Shannon And The Clams
- Ten Million And Two – Yvonne Devaney
- While U W8 – Miniboone
- Relax Baby Be Cool – Stereo Total
- Disarm – Empire Of The Sun
- Numero Seenko – Lack Of Afro
- Honeypot – Ben Daniels Band
- All Things All At Once – Tired Pony
- Breathing Without You – The Jane Carrey Band
- Tender Years – John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band
- Blue Eyes Don’t – Steve Smith And The Nakeds

Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

I was less than impressed with this. I'm going to paraphrase Cracked.com and compare this movie to looking at pictures of dead loved ones. It brings back good memories of times past, but it ultimately isn't the same.

Did you pay for it or did you...ahem, pay for it? I can't find it anywhere.

I downloaded it off iTunes, but as with the original film, it's missing a ton of great songs that were features in the movie. I found a complete list of songs from the film on a soundtrack database website and these are the songs I couldn't place scenes to.

I have the complete soundtrack to the first, and only liked a handful of songs to this film, like the end credits music, so i won't be paying for it lol.

I just noticed that after he hugs Mary in the first one Lloyd says "I hate goodbyes" and in this one after he hugs Penny he says "I love hellos'.

I didn't like it either.
I actually struggled to stay awake.
A lot of stuff took me back and was just not funny.
I want to check it out again sometime but I dunno Carrey seemed more mischevious in the first film.

I saw it last night and had a few laughs here and there. Nothing hilarious and overall, I'd say it was just okay.

There were scenes where there seemed to be some awkward silence thing happening after a joke. Was that just me? It felt really odd at times.

I caught that, found it really forced and unfunny though.

Obviously the movie cannot live up to the first, it's may be my favorite comedy of all time, and I went in with those expectations. All in all however I found it quite funny. I really could do without the low brow, gross out humor, like searching for the diamonds. To me those jokes don't add any humor. Reminds me of a Waynes Brothers movie. The first movie got by without that type of joke. That being said, I laughed during this movie, a lot.

Here's the real test...if this was Vegas...would the odds be better on betting that this movie will be good or bad?

Also, how many good/great sequels are there with an actual time lapse of 20+ years?

Yup, this movie was poo.

The Farrely brothers need to stop making movies.

I think what they should do, with this property - is seasonal specials - hour long episodes - like a netflix xmas special.

There is still support for the 'franchise' but not enough to warrant sequels.

Could be an easy pay check for all those involved and Netflix would do well from it.

My only gripe, now i had time to let it gestate - the part of *****er, i just didn't like the actress, she didn't look good on screen, maybe that was what they wanted, but it just felt akward to me, there was no real chemistry between the two - Melissa McCarthy would have been much better.

The crude jokes - diamonds, wine cork - just not needed.

But the essence of the original was still there for me - a far better sequel than Anchor man

I saw this movie knowing about the negativity towards it. However I don't let that effect me. Never have. I like things a lot of people hate. But this movie was absolute s*** on a stick. I grew up on the original so I understand it's humor inside and out and I know what makes the original work and this movie was not the same characters. Lloyd was rude, offensive, crude and completely over acted. If you watch the original jim played Lloyd as a guy who was a little self centre'd but his heart was in the right place. I this movie he was just a prick. That was not Lloyd. Harry was mostly the same but he also fantasized about
plugging his daughters vagina with a cork to stop her period and letting a dog lick his nut sack.

I didn't laugh once. This was pathetic. Anchorman 2 atleast made me laugh at certain points. Anchorman 2 is the greatest comedy ever made next to this s***. 0 stars from me. Such a waste of a 20 year build up.
