I hope I'm wrong, but I have a bad feeling this will got the way of Anchorman 2. Overhyped and not nearly as good as the original.

I just fear that they'll rely too much on nostalgia by repeating a lot of the same jokes. That's always a major fault of comedy franchise sequels.

Look, let me tell you this. I've been following all the news of this film for quite sometime and if there's one thing I've learned is that everyone involved is making sure of staying true to the original but also trying to be equally good. They made sure of that, all the original writers from the first movie are back, they even went to some Family Guy writers to re-shape some jokes and they've been working on the script for years to make sure it's a decent sequel to a movie everyone loves.
The movie got a lot of work and I'm staying optimistic about it. And even though one shouldn't believe everything from a test screening, a rough cut of the movie earlier this year got some pretty interesting reactions, so there's that too.

Just type "dumb and dumber to test screening reactions" in Google, and you'll have a couple of pages. Beware, there are spoilers about some of the footage. In fact, there's one joke I've read, only one, that I laughed so much I thought it was a genious joke, so I stopped reading.

Same here. I didn't care for the whole lighthouse scene. I thought that dragged out for me.

If D&D 2 is as comparable to D&D 1 as Anchorman 2 was to Anchorman 1, that'd be a huge relief. Anchorman 2 was pretty good as far as comedy sequels go. In fact, I'd say it only fell just a little short of the original.

Sadly, since the Farrelly brothers haven't made a really funny film since 'There's Something About Mary' 16 (!) years ago, I think D&D 2 being like Caddyshack 2 would be a better bet.
