Sci-Fi Dune

I will say, having rewatched the movie, seeing Kevin J Anderson get a special thanks really throws me off.

The Two Towers bit caught my attention.
Me too. Although I always get hesitant when people compare movies in early reactions just because it creates wild expectations. I'm hyped though!

I feel like I'm really missing out here because I really don't get the hype for Dune. Part 1 didn't interest me at all BUT I really want to seeborcat least understand what it is about these films that people love and are excited about. Can someone fill me in, please?

It's a pretty simple explanation for me. Apart from being a sci-fi franchise that's well-crafted with a lot of care and respect for the source material that has a stellar cast, I'm also a fan of Denis Villeneuve's work. It's also sort of rare to see big franchise movies look this good these days so that's another part of the appeal.

Dune is just one of those foundational novels in the genre. So, to see a fairly faithful adaptation, with an amazing budget, look, and cast, is great for me.

As for the general audience, I would say it is an amazing looking film with a cast that is able to tell a good story.

If you didn't like the 1st one, chances are you won't like the 2nd one. Dune can just not be your thing, and that's fine.
When I was in middle school and the Lord of the Rings trilogy was brand new, I knew a couple of friends who didn't care a whole lot for The Fellowship of the Ring that ended up loving The Two Towers because it was more action-oriented. This is something I can totally see happening with Dune for people who thought the first movie was too slow but are willing to give Part Two a chance.

It is...

Wish it were so. The box office mojo number includes a typo that hasn't been corrected. Unless it made as much in two days in the UK as the entire original run. Haven't seen any other source yet, I'm afraid.

Edit: reporting on this is still weird and a lot of info is missing from The Numbers and Box Office Mojo, but does actually seem to be accurate.

Hopefully I'll get to see this on Sunday, my local theater's only about half full right now (LieMAX, unfortunately).
