Sci-Fi Dune

Forget the bucket, let's talk about Zendaya's shirt.

I actually partook in a different Villeneuve movie today and watched Prisoners for the first time because today's the last day it was on Netflix (weird because it's not the end of the month?). Needless to say I wasn't disappointed and I'm kind of shocked it got almost completely snubbed at the Oscars that year except for a cinematography nom.

Prisoners was elite stuff, I'm glad I saw that in the theater.

It makes for a perfect double feature with Zodiac.
Possibly a hot take but I'd even put it above Sicario and Arrival as far as Villeneuve's other films go. At least the ones I've seen.

I f***ing love Prisoners.
I'm kind of mad at myself that it took me ten years to finally watch it, especially because I distinctly remember wanting to see it when it came out but it just kind of slipped away from me over time. I might have even still procrastinated watching it even more if not for the threat of Netflix taking it off the service at midnight.

Is it really a hot take? I think it's his best work personally.
That's just me using the Rotten Tomatoes critic scores as a barometer even though I should know better. Sicario and Arrival are both really good as well but Prisoners was expertly paced. Those two and a half hours went by quick.

A tough watch, I presume? Or is it no good?

Tough watch. It’s worth it tho. Very, very well crafted, but pretty heavy and it being hard on a harrowing true story makes it all feel grimmer. Even his real early stuff like August 32nd or Maelstrom have their merits despite being very off kilter and rough around the edges.

Sound good! I'll get around to it soon enough, I've wanted to see it for a long time and now I finally can because I got a VPN and it's on Tubi.

Early Villeneuve is interesting. I liked Maelstrom quite a bit, August 32nd not so much but it's worth another try. Enemy was the last "odd" film he made, I'd like to see him revisit something like that.

Enemy is the one I've been wanting to revisit the most. I do agree that Maelstrom is the better of the two between it and August 32nd. He has other massive stuff lined up between Part Two and the possible Dune Messiah, so who knows if he'll ever go back to something smaller in scale, or at least less accessible by his standards. I'd love another crime/thriller.

He's supposed to do The Son for HBO, an adaptation of a Jo Nesbo novel, with Jake Gylenhaal starring and Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan producing. It's an extremely promising project but there haven't been any updates on that front for over three years. That would be the perfect break from large scale projects and a return to his Hollywood roots with something very close to The Prisoners.

Surprised the full 10-minute sneak peek has been out officially on WB's channel for 2 days now and no one's posted it:

And no, this one is not the same as the 7:07 min long one posted on the previous page. It's the full 10-min sneak peek that contains cast interviews, an intro by Denis and the full trailer montage (the shorter sneak peek has the trailer montage edited down - this has all the extra scenes).

This is also what was shown on the re-release of Part 1 I went to see at my local cinema last night and it was absolutely incredible.

I'll try to drop by and get a selfie with Timothée ModdedController360.
