Sci-Fi Dune

Gotta love when my gifs become memes.

So, first glance at the Fri numbers, and we have a possibility of a sub 50% drop this weekend.

Praise be the legs of Shai-hulud.

Looks like due to cost and time constraints, I won't be able to go see it in IMAX today so I had to refund my tickets.

I am still doing round 3 at my local cinema today, though and potentially rounds 4 and 5 the next week and weekend after, respectively (will try to experience it in IMAX in one of those).

Yeah, the hold has been spectacular so far. Both domestic, OS, and China also looks promising. (Edit: China and domestic Friday did turn out a bit lower, but still really nice overall.)

Already down to a 47% drop. Watch those legs go....
It's been a while since I've seen a movie that keeps rising so much in the early predictions vs actuals.

We started at heading for a $41M weekend, went up to $44M, and now I'm seeing a cautious $47M / $47,5M being thrown around. Just as much of a rollercoaster as last weekend.

Let's see what Sunday actuals say this time though. I don't want to count my chickens before they're hatched, but either way it's an amazing hold.

Saw it last night, it was amazing. I have a question though, maybe I missed something ;
there is the scene where they take out a Spice harvester. They destroy the ornithopter before using their lasgun, and I understand it's because they don't wanna risk hitting it's shield with the lasgun and they don't wanna risk the ornithopter destroying the lasgun, and it makes sense. After that though they show more scenes of more harvesters being destroyed, and in one those they are firing the lasguns directly at The harvester, even though there are several ornithopters nearby. Why is that?

It's very reminiscent of Oppenheimer, after all. It's going to be close but it has a chance of beating Kung Fu Panda 4 today and become #1 for the second consecutive weekend.

KFP4 is also overperforming closer to $60M domestic. It sold almost as much tickets as Part Two did last week, but without premium screens, which drives the total down. Good weeks for the box office.

International BO for Part Two is expected to end at about $208M by Sunday evening. About 40% drop for week 2, if we exclude China where it's still opening. That's a lot of words to say it's doing great.

Harvesters cannot be shielded, as they attract worms quicker than the vibrations do. I assume they are just using different strategies in different situations. That second one probably had them set up so that they wouldn't hit the shielded ornithopters.

finally got to watch this in theaters.
it was great. denis villeneuve is a sci-fi film god. :funny:

part 1 stayed fairly close to the book, but part 2 diverged quite a bit from it.
i was fine with that, but i can see how some fans might not like it.
and it will probably change things up significantly on how a sequel might play out now.

i watched this on screen X at my local theater - which i think is a bit of a rip-off.
because after a short while, i didn't really notice that 270 deg view / side screens - i was just focused on the main screen.

either case, the film was a beauty to watch.
visuals, cinematography, sound design, the soundtrack, and the acting...all of it was great.

stilgar with his confirmation bias had the audience in my theater laughing :funny:

I'm probably gonna read the novel now, but it was a good movie.

Hearing some of the things about the sequel books just sounds so out there though lol

The books are terrific. I hope we get a Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, and God Emperor.

i feel they really should edit both parts into just one film, but i doubt denis will do that.

streaming services like max can have it play as one movie though, where there's a chapter break between part 1 and part 2.

to me, this is just one epic film that had to be split in two due to logistics.
