Sci-Fi Dune

I was thinking:

Vincent D'Onofrio as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.

Zendaya as Chani.

Javier Bardem as Emperor Shaddam IV.

Matt Bomer as Duke Leto I Atreides.

Alice Eve as Princess Irulan.

After watching the first 4 episodes of the new Jack Ryan series, how would Ali Suliman do for a potential Stilgar? And the actress Dina Shihabi, who played his wife - maybe she can be Harah. Also been thinking about Rutger Hauer as Thufir lately too. :)

Don't know the guy but he could be a Stilgar, he has the beard at least.

I was thinking:

Vincent D'Onofrio as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.
Typecasting but he has the physical presence.
Zendaya as Chani.
What about Alica Viskanker ? She is slime like a Fremen and can pull off athletic stuff and combat.
Matt Bomer as Duke Leto I Atreides.
Or a Duncan ?
Alice Eve as Princess Irulan.

Too old, Irulan was around Paul age, a tad older but she could be Lady Fenring (if she makes it in the movie).
Fan casting, I'm not good at it :)

PS : phew multi quoting is hard.

Would rather the Fremen to be middle eastern.

Or at least darker skinned because they described that way in the book and seem like they're based off of Bedouins or some other such Middle Eastern people.

OK, my latest choices for Fey-Rautha...

Either Tye Sheridan or Kodi Smit-McPhee. Kodi, while also looking like Asa Butterfield, might need to workout a little though. Also considered Ansel Elgort, who while having attended High School with Chalamet together could work off each other well on screen if he were considered to play Feyd too. Apparently they are old mates too so the chemistry is definitely apparent. And the pic I posted of Tye immediately had me thinking of Feyd as well.

Also, how does Eva Green as Lady Margot Fenring sound... ;)

Hopefully an announcement on whether Roger Deakins will be involved too.

I think there was a rumor going around that Greig Fraser (Rogue One, Zero Dark Thirty etc) is going to to do the cinematography for Dune.

Yeah, Deakins is supposed to be shooting 1917 with Mendes at the time. :csad:

Hopefully it's not Deakins. Is Wally available? :o

I do think we will be getting more announcements soon. This tweet has got to mean Mohiam has been cast.
Not sure why else Brian would randomly throw this quote up.

Two months since the latest news about the film. It's time we get something.

OK, so here's a sound choice for Gurney Halleck - Tommy Flanagan!!

Great casting.

In the alternative.....

Paul Atriedes - Nicholas Hoult

Duke Leto - Ioan Gruffud

The Emperor - Charles Dance

Lady Jessica - Eve Green

Baron Harkonnen - Christopher Walken, John Malkovitch or Nic Cage ( not for the look but for the sheer craziness)

Thufir Hawat - Mark Strong

Feyd Rautha - James Franco or maybe Orlando Bloom

According to the books, Shadam IV looks 36 ( or was it 38 ? ) y/o as does Duke Leto,
The few characters that does look old are Hawat, RM Mohiam, Gurney ( more or less ), Kynes, RM Ramolo, The Baron ( more or less ).
And by Dune standard, no one looks more than 50 or 60 y/o tops, then again, I'd rather like a good actor casting than a bad faithful one ( age wise ).

RM : Reverend Mother.

Totally agree. That's why someone who does OTT villains is necessary for the Baron IMO, no matter what their BMI is.

I don't know, The Baron is gross, disgusting and pervert but he doesn't act over the top, he is a smart and scheming fellow, he is no fool.

Edit : random though about Brian Herbert, the books he wrote with "I don't remember who" are bad, they are almost like Star Wars prequels of badness.
If someone is interested by Dune extended knowledge, buy the Dune Encyclopedia.

That's all true, he is no fool, but the Baron is obsessed with vengeance and he's pretty crazy ( the best thing about the David Lynch film was Kenneth McMillan's OTT performance as the Baron).

As for the prequel novels, compared to the novel Dune they are a bit like comparing "The Princess and the Dragon " a children's picture book to Lord of the Rings. They just aren't in the same league.

I was thinking about Domnhall Gleeson for the role of the Emperor Shaddam. He's currently 35 and he even has the red hair to boot. :)

Been also thinking about Harry Styles whether he would be a good fit for Feyd as well. And how about Ben Mendelsohn as Count Fenring? Also, how is this for a left-field casting suggestion?! Somebody just suggested Forest Whittaker as Gurney Halleck. Sure, he's not white like in the book but I do think he would look the part. :)

This, under Denis Villeneuve has the potential to be SO special, as much as I admire the 80's film, I believe DV's vision could be 'film of the year' stuff.

Yes, it only needs a quality director who is a fan, a lot of cash and free reign as it was the case for P.Jackson for LotR.
It can be done.

I've got high hopes for this.

I'm not good at fan casting but I think B.Mendelsohn as Fenring would be a tad typecasting but thinking about it, he does have a fitting voice and speech mannerism for Fenring's "humming speech".
F.Whittaker is too old for Gurney if you ask me but your suggestion made me though of him as Hawat.

Gurney is said to be in his mid-50's. Forest Whitaker is 57 years old so he's not that far off the mark. That said though, he would also make a good Thufir. :)

See for me that was one of the WORST parts of the film. They butchered his character and turned him into a gross joke (whereas in the book he's meant to be really smart and a legit threat). He's not some babbling screaming moron like in the film.

Agree. The portrayal of Harkonnen was ridiculously over the top. Ian McNeice was better in the TV miniseries.
