Sci-Fi Dune

I mean Tremors is a monster movie classic, so its hard for any film to compare to that honestly. I am really looking forward to seeing their portrayal of The Worms in this though, because they have always been my favorite thing about the past movie adaptations as well. Also, with how advanced CGI is nowadays they can do some truly amazing stuff with them and on an even bigger scope too.

We don't the fish Navigator in the first book only 2 humanoid Guildsmen.
The stillsuits look good in the pictures, the robes could have been heavier though.
The body armors seem misplaced when you know that people use body shield and Atreides battle technique is about agility(among other things).
And navigators probably won't even appear in the first film.
And that's if they do adapt Dune Messiah or if they are just going to leave it with adapting the first book.

The closest thing we will probably see to an alien will be the Spacing Guild Navigators. Which are actually humans that have been evolved by the spice.
Guild Navigator

The Tleilaxu are also close to non-human, but they are even less likely to show up than a Navigator. Considering Lynch worked in a navigator, I am fairly certain Villenueve will work one in. And depending on the full plans, maybe some other stuff.

I read that the script heavily relies on Paul's POV. But it's also quite heavy on exposition. Atreides move to Arrakis as early as page 2 of the script. Shaddam, Irulan aren't in the script, only mentioned. I feel Villeneuve won't expand beyond the first novel.

Both adaptions of Dune worked in an appearance by a navigator, so I don't think it's a big deal for Villeneuve to do it as well. Just to put in a "sci fi" moment into a film so it's not too grounded.

It's not that it can't work, I'm just thinking he will try to not bloat the story or cast of characters more than it needs to. It already has a lot of stuff to juggle. Similarly how Peter Jackson had to eliminate various characters from his adaptation to condense the narrative. It applies even more so if it doesn't present in a novel in a meaningful way and introduced much later.

Okay. Time to decide. Who pulled off the look better?

Daisy is great, but I think Rebecca clinches it here. Lady Jessica is the kind of lady who doesn't need a lightsaber to be utterly imposing.

God, after the creatively bankrupt and confused mess that was the sequel trilogy, Dune really should be a breath of fresh air.

For what it is, Dune's story is actually pretty focused and moves at a compelling pace. No bullcrap about long Anglo-Saxon poems and songs and stuff like that. With the luxury of two movies to tell the story of one novel, I can see Villeneuve being able to add stuff that was just referred to in the books, like Idaho meeting the Fremen, possibly them kicking some smuggler or Harkonnen arse, and a meeting of the various conspirators against the Duke, which might include the Guild, but also some parties that weren't in the first book, like the Bene Tleilax. Likewise, for the second film I wouldn't mind it if they invented additional content for Feyd, Irulan and the Fenrings.

I did like how the miniseries boosted Irulan's role, clearly planning on the second miniseries. I am curious where the split is going to happen. Clearly it won't be merely splitting where the book splits things up.

That's literally how the stillsuits work. All the moisture the human body accumulates throughout the day such as sweat, urine, and poop is collected by the suit and recycled into drinkable water. It's how the Fremen survive in the desert.

Unless I'm misremembering Fremen also recycle their dead for the water in the body. It's not a big deal. No different from the water and sewage treatment and recycling we do in the real world. What they do in Dune is just much more efficient and comprehensive than what we are capable of doing in the real world. So many humans in the real world dont have a reliable source of fresh drinking water every day so a still suit would be a godsend. And as long as the water is sanitized it really shouldnt matter where it comes from.

Chen Chang as Dr.Wellington Yueh
Looks like I was mistaken about Yueh being present on the group pic. Anyway, he looks great. And Villeneuve is on a mission of "make brutalist architecture great again".

If those reports about the script are legit, we already know stuff will be axed from the story (Jessica in the garden, for example). And obviously something will be added to expand/detail events or roles. But I personally believe the general idea will be to reduce the amount of events and characters where possible, but expand the remaining.

I hope these photo releases mean we get a trailer or teaser release soon.
I have my doubts about that happening since they probably aren't sure if they're gonna push the film back yet or not. Like the magazine spreads for No Time To Die and WW84, this publicity was agreed upon months ago with the magazine and were gonna be released now regardless of when the movie actually comes out. A trailer, on the other hand, is entirely within their control to release, and If they're having any doubts about the film's release date, I'd expect a delay on that.

Makes sense. They might want to wait for the dust to clear more. But who knows when that will happen?
