Oh, I understand the preference, but I think realistically we would've ended up with four pretty interchangeable Harkonnen characters if he was in there. I'm just curious at this point who they'll cast and we'll see what they do with him in part 2. The ink is already dry anyway.![]()
Possibly, or it could've set up a younger rival for Paul on the Harkonnen side to help build that character up more. It's all about execution. Also, it's about narrative and execution. The very first chapter of the book occurs like 20 minutes into the film. Which is fine and all. You have to ease an audience into this wacky sci-fi future and world. I don't think it would've made four interchangeable Harkonnens though.
Rabban = big, dumb, aggressive. All brawn and no brain. Excessively cruel. Might makes right. No compassion. Wants to wear the big boy pants.
Feyd = cunning, ambitious, younger, devious. He's the golden boy and he knows it.
Baron = excess and greed incarnate. Seductive. Manipulative. Lugubrious. Knows he can't entrust the future of his house to Rabban.
Actually, the reason I like the Harkonnen clan is that they are NOT interchangeable as villains. They are all fairly distinct and unique. They are only interchangeable if they are interpreted on film that way.
