I really enjoyed the first Dune, even if I didn't think it was perfect (haven't read the books, so keep that in mind). The early reactions to part 2 have been exceptional so I'm sure I'll probably enjoy this one even more. It's just nice to be excited about an event movie again and the first of 2024.

I don’t know if this was already known, but the script for David Lynch’s Dune Messiah was found. Also on the latest episode of Best Movies Never Made podcast. Thought it was a fascinating what if.

I may have to hunt that script down

I am SO behind the times I just saw the first one last night (got it on 4K blu ray a few months ago) did not even know part 2 was recently in theaters I thought I had a few months til it came out. I sadly work mon to friday night shifts so I am gonna see part 2 next weekend I will go to a theater out of town that has awesome picture and sound, not that my theater is bad I just wanna see it in the best way possible.

Can someone attending an early screening maybe confirm some rumors about two actors not appearing in the final movie despite filming scenes? Seen it on Wikipedia, and a few other places, but nothing definitive. I can adjust my expectations accordingly if it's true (or not).

Stephen McKinley Henderson and Tim Blake Nelson.

Also, neither Box Office Mojo nor The Numbers has figured out where the $30M number from the reissue came from. Per Box Office Mojo that $30M doesn't include the ~$1.660M from the US and it made $28,322,437 in the UK, which obviously is an error. The Numbers actually somehow lowered the total UK box office by the amount they claimed the reissue made in the UK ($423,863). There isn't enough data to cover $5M, let alone $30M, so The Numbers has just thrown it under "the rest of the world" for now. Some really weird reporting.

If the UK and US together barely crack $2M then $30M is an insane total amount though, so assuming there's just a lot of data missing for now.

Not a super big deal regardless, but I'm just a sucker for box office stuff. Excited for Part Two though. Shaping up really well!

Who was Tim Blake Nelson playing ?

I've not seen any official confirmations anywhere, but guessing it probably was Fenring? That'd be my best guess anyway.

I'm pretty confident he was to play Fenring as well. Don't want to delve deeper into spoilers, but there was a point I thought we were about to see him but then he never appeared. I'm ambivalent to the character so I was fine with it. Whereas I was bummed that there was no Hawat. I understand why Hawat isn't in it because then this turns into a movie over 3 hrs if they adapted him properly, and the film is already juggling a lot but I missed him all the same.

Yeah, I guess they were both a victim of the runtime. All the more reason for a 6/7-hour cut of Dune, though we know how Denis Villeneuve feels about those of course. If there's any other franchise that could do with LOTR-esque extended editions though... I think it'd make even more sense to do this if they take a few-year break before the next movie. Get everyone back on board with new scenes before the new one comes out.

One thing i gotta hand it to Villaneuve and the screenwriters for is really doing a great job of streamlining this supposedly very complicated and convoluted source material into a REALLY straightforward story. Part 2 is even way more straightforward than part 1 and i would also argue just overall more palatable for general audiences.

Theres more humor in this one and more naturalistic acting from almost all of the actors as opposed to part 1 where it felt like everyone (except jason mamoa) was so stoic and talking in colloquialisms, the acting and dialogue in this part felt a little more…modern to me? Not to an extreme degree mind you, but subtly. I feel like that may have been a subtle change on Villaneuve’s part to make sure audiences had an easier time digesting this one.
