Starting this coming Saturday.

I'm not a huge Anime fanatic, but I do watch quite a few. I strongly recommend watching this one. It's one of the more clever and creative series' that I've seen in a while on more than just an anime level. I'm interested to see how they'll do the English dub.

Put it this way, what it's about really can't be explained in a way to do it justice...at least not by me (which isn't saying much ;)). You have to just go with it...but it'll hook you in if you do.

Yeah I saw the commercials for this last night when I was watching the anime block last night.

Reminded me of Paranoia Agent a bit.

It's not as cryptic as that. There's a lot of fun and whimsy to it, but it's also allegorical and intense in its own right. There's a lot of characters, but it's really interesting how they all somehow intertwine and relate to eachother.

It's a very contemporary/underground/pulp artistic vibe, too, and a great example of how anime can really shine in areas other than straight magic/fantasy or action/sci-fi/violence.

I really think it's pretty special.

I'm just a little worried that the English dub may take away from it...but they seem to have done pretty well with a lot of their shows.

I'm 13 episodes in and I love this series and it's characters.

The first episode on AS got me so intrigued that I couldn't help myself to not watch the rest. So far really loving this series.

The intertwining of all the characters within the central plot is done really well.

Glad you like it. It really does grab you as you watch it and kind of sink into the 'rhythm' and sort of 'beat poetry' of what it does. After the first episode on A.S., I'm not quite sold on the English dub, though. It's a tough thing to do for something like this.

Yeah man its amazing.

I'm at episode 19 at the moment and saving the rest for tonight, I've grown to really like the Japanese voice actors for this anime. With that said from what I remember of the first episode of the American dub it wasn't that bad.

Although I've seen so many episodes now with the pure Japanese audio track that I wonder if it'll be more glaring this coming Saturday when I re watch the second episode only in English this time.

Ditto on the it being special part too man. An anime hasn't really hit me like this in a while, more people need to see this series.

And I think more people need to realize that anime doesn't always have to be giant robots, magic, and strange chipmunk faces. You just don't see these kinds of approaches with Western animation, because for the Japanese, anime really is their film industry.

You should also watch Eden Of The East, if you haven't already.

Agreed with everything Kal.

Coincidentally enough Eden Of The East was at the top of my "To watch list" because it was directed by Kenji Kamiyama.

I'll definitely check it out now.

Finished Durarara!!. Loved it.

There is just so many more questions to be answered. I really hope they give it a second season if there's any series that deserves at least 2 more seasons it's this show here. The Celty Arc along with Shizuo and Izuya backstory must be further elaborated on.

The entire Valhalla deal needs to be touched on as well.

I too would have liked it to go on for longer, but I also feel that it was just right. It's kind of in line with the whole vibe of the series to leave things up to our imagination and not have to go too far into every single storyline.

But unlike a lot of other series, it didn't seem to screech to a halt and wrap things up haphazardly. I'm just thankful that it was such a good series.

Only watched 4 Episodes so far. Really liking it. If craigdbfan didn't have that Avatar, I probably would've never found out about it.

Dude, I'm loving it. Anri. Saika. :awesome:

That's all I have to say.

Anri's theme is the best. That weird chanting in the background makes that part of the score so epic.

Yet it's nowhere to be found in any of the soundtracks. :(

Also, is it weird to find a headless woman hot?

Not at all...and that's one of the things the series does brilliantly. You really like the character, and the animators/writers did a wonderful job portraying a certain strength and grace...but also compassion and vulnerability in her own way....without going for something too dark or cryptic. Outstanding job by them.

The whole musical approach is great...from the Chopin-esque classical piano overtures to the more jazz-inspired passages. It all adds a unique flavor that you just don't find in other series..be they anime or live-action. that's why I felt that the series kind of transcends its format....you see a lot of things that you'd love to see in movies and shows and other things.

That way it was done was masterful. Well said.

You described it perfectly. One of the strong point of the show are how it blends all these elements and executes it to a tee.

I love all the reveals, twists and turns moments. It's like every episode there's a new "Woah!" moment. And the characters are just so likable. Like all that "I hate violence. And that's no lie.", great stuff. Just something I didn't expect of the character, watching him throw heavy objects around all that time.

I need a 2nd season. Like... right now! >_<

I can't believe how much stuff they left open. Does anyone know how good the shows reception was?
