Based on a true story that gripped the country, When They See Us will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. The four part limited series will focus on the five teenagers from Harlem -- Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise. Beginning in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the incident, the series will span 25 years, highlighting their exoneration in 2002 and the settlement reached with the city of New York in 2014.

When They See Us was created by Ava DuVernay, who also co-wrote and directed the four parts. Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King from Participant Media, Oprah Winfrey from Harpo Films, and Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh from Tribeca Productions will executive produce the limited series alongside DuVernay through her banner, Forward Movement. In addition to DuVernay, Attica Locke, Robin Swicord, and Michael Starrburry also serve as writers on the limited series.

The series stars Emmy Award® Nominee Michael K. Williams, Academy Award® Nominee Vera Farmiga, Emmy Award® Winner John Leguizamo, Academy Award® Nominee and Emmy Award® Winner Felicity Huffman, Emmy Award® Nominee Niecy Nash, Emmy Award® Winner and two-time Golden Globe Nominee Blair Underwood, Emmy Award® and Grammy Award® Winner and Tony Award® Nominee Christopher Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Omar Dorsey, Adepero Oduye, Famke Janssen, Aurora Perrineau, William Sadler, Jharrel Jerome, Jovan Adepo, Aunjanue Ellis, Kylie Bunbury, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Storm Reid, Chris Chalk, Freddy Miyares, Justin Cunningham, Ethan Herisse, Caleel Harris, Marquis Rodriguez, and Asante Blackk.

Man those pictures already break my heart. I knew nothing of this.

It's one of those things that if you were alive during that time or later learned of it, it can be hard to forget.

I hope Ava tears the police and DAs on this case a new rectum on this one.

Now as I look at this and have read up on the case I do think the police acted wrong with these boys but at the same time I don't think they were that innocent as they are trying to portray them. While I don't believe they raped that woman I do believe they had some involvement.

So weird seeing Felicity Huffman in this one.

This was really well done, it deserves all the Emmy/Golden Globe nominations next year. All of Ava’s projects looks visually beautiful, even for a story as intense as this one.

Those boys did not deserve what happened to them. Cops preyed on scared kids and their scared families knowing most of them were clueless and they deserve every bit of that settlement they received. Felicity made my blood boil, Aunjanue Ellis was amazing as usual as Yusef’s mom and Jharrel nailed it as Korey.

I saw some people on social media calling for Linda Fairstein’s books to be taken off the shelves, I’m with them.

But if you read about the case these boys had scratches and on them that made it look like they were apart of this. They may not have raped the woman but they may have been apart of it. I am not saying the police were right in what they did. In fact they were wrong in how they handled thing but in reading on everything it didn't paint them in the most perfect light either.

The miniseries touches upon where those “scratches” came from.

See my thing is if not for the Armstrong report I would've said these men were wrongly convicted. But that report which was done independently shows they knew way too much to have been innocent. I think it was wrong how the police got the confession and really because of how they did things the whole case for the most part could've and should've been thrown out. With that being said I do think the boys were there that night what their involvement was in everything I don't know. I just think they knew more then what they're saying or also may have participated in some form or fashion.

How could they have participated or known anything about the rape when they were all telling made up stories, because the cops were threatening them? On top of that, the woman who was beaten and raped lost 80% of her blood in the attack: five boys raped her or participated and didn’t have a speck of her blood on them?

Face facts. They were innocent.

Well, you also see how much the cops tried really hard to place the kids in a part of the park that was impossible given the other events that happened that night so it could fit the narrative of their investigation.

I thought this was incredible. DuVernay really did a phenomenal job with this mini series and I hope she just sticks to doing stuff like this and not crap like A Wrinkle in Time. So many emotions were happening while I was watching this, and as good as the first half is the second half of this show is just downright amazing IMO and an emotional rollarcoaster, especially that last episode. I always knew Jharrel Jerome had talent after seeing him in stuff like Moonlight and Mr. Mercedes, but here he just takes it to a whole other level.

The dude deserves all the awards recognition he can get as does Felicity Huffman who is just great at being such an unlikable character. Seriously, her performance was almost too convincing.

Even though he doesn't look old enough he would be a perfect choice to replace the guy who just got fired from The Chi.

I'm assuming in your independent research you didn't come across Matias Reyes confessing to everything in 2002. Even going as far to say he acted alone.

The historical record now totally disproves your theory.

Yeah, these men were at the time kids of their era. They were no angels. But the point is they were not the perpetrators of this crime nor connected to it.
