Dying Light

Yeah, we talked about that about 10 posts up. Long dead.

my copy should arrive today or tomorrow! Can't wait to try it! although getting Yakuza 4 tomorrow with playstation plus may take me some time... Man, when I think of all those hours I will spend in kamurocho...

I hated Dead Island, but this game is loads of fun. I'm really impressed with the graphics and parkour and it's great how different the game feels between single player and co-op, despite it being the same missions. The combat gets really fun, too, as you unlock new weapons and moves. There is something incredibly fulfilling about drop kicking zombies.

you hated Dead Island? Man, I've spent so many hours on this one, be it on solo or on coop! Dead Island is the reason I've been so excited about Dying Light in the first place!

Yeah, I didn't like the controls - felt they were really clumsy and I didn't like the arcade nature of it all, among other things.

But that should tell you how fun Dying Light is. Everything I didn't like about the Dead Island games is either fixed or nonexistent. It probably isn't going to win any awards, but it really is a blast to play, and as of right now, I think it's the first truly next gen game in terms of graphics...it's just beautiful. It has some of the best parkour in a game I've played. And the co-op is great. I love how I can play the game in SP, and it's stressful with a lot of planning in terms of avoiding zombies, making sure you've got the tools to survive...playing night missions is terrifying. When you go into co-op, it's ALL about running around and crushing heads. Co-op also lets you create pvp challenges on the spot (ie: find more lot, kill more zombies, race to a care package, etc). And if you are joining another person's game, any xp, loot and unlocks you get transfer over to your own SP game, which is a nice touch.

I keep trying to install that Be the Zombie mode thing... and it stops at 99% and gives me some weird error.

I'm two hours in the game, didn't try be the zombie mode, but I didn't encounter any error while installing it.

The game is indeed a blast to play. It's really really fun, and so far, the city is really immersive. It's obviously a Dead island follow up, and yet, it doesn't feel like dead island. The parkour is really great. I didn't try the coop yet. Now that I have a mic, I shall try it soon though. But those who will play with me will surely make fun of my accent ^^

Glad you're enjoying it! Make sure to explore - there are tons of weapons upgrades scattered around. There is a really good one at the top of the suspension bridge (climb the cable on the left to get to some scaffolding, then climb that to the very top of the bridge).

Thinking about getting this game or Evolve. Most of my friends have Dying Light and say its fun to play, but I am a huge Left 4 Dead fan and Evolve is sorta like that series. Will wait for reviews are out on Evolve before I decide.

I would wait until the price drops. More like a weekend game than spending 60 on. Might trade this in for evolve

A weekend game? It' 35 plus hours. If anything Evolve is the weekend game. After playing both the Alpha and the Beta I couldn't be anymore LESS interested in that game. Sure it might be decent fun if you have a few friends playing it.. but the lack of any kind of campaign, it's ridiculous DLC strategy and the fact that it's going to be absolutely horrible to play with strangers makes that game completely drop off the radar.

DL however offers a deep single player campaign with added fun when you get two more buddies with you. Yeah, the choice is obvious for me, Dying Light over less fun Left 4 Dead any day.

thanks for the advice! I loved exploring in Dead Island, and I know I will spend a lot of time doing the same here, if only because the parkous is so much fun!

I played the evolve beta, and it was really boring. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement, considering I loved Left 4 dead 1 and 2.

Dying Light, I only played solo so far, but it's been a ton of fun, and I'm sure it will be even better in coop.

I had to give up playing this as it gives me a headache (as I had to with Destiny)

So...first person games all do this to you?

They never used to, maybe old age is catching up to me. I have been avoiding games that have a first person perspective. Alien isolation also gave me a headache. This does not happen after hours its only takes 5-10 minutes, from there it depends on how bad I want to feel as the longer I play the worse I feel.

I am moving in 1 month and the 60 inch TV will be further away from where I would sit to play. Right now it is like only 8 feet so I hope this is only due to the closeness of the TV. I hate missing out on games I would enjoy playing.

So...I just found Exaclibur. Yes the sword. It's awesome. Just wish that it had better durability, but with its damage at well over 300, it's fun as hell.

the more I play this game, the more i LOVE it. It's awesome.

I really need to sink more time into this. Stupid work.

...Seriously?! Was it part of a side quest or did you just happen upon it.

Came across it while swimming to a mission with a friend.

It's at the bottom right corner of the map. You gotta swim towards the corner of the map until you come across a small pile of rocks jutting out from the water. The sword will be on that little island stuck in a corpse. You have to hold the search/loot button for a while (about a minute) until the sword is released. When you grab the sword, the corpse will catch on fire - wait for the fire to die and there will be a blueprint for the sword so you can make it again...the sword is FANTASTIC, but doesn't last long at all, so getting the blueprint is essential.

I have yet to try out the co-op in this game. If any of you guys would like to add me on Xbox One, my gamertag is KryptonsLastOne. If you add me, please message me and let me know that you are from the Hype! :woot:

Just started playing through my digital copy of Dying Light. I enjoy it. Free running/parkour stuff is actually pretty neat and functional. The zombies and enemy AI are actually quite impressive. Even when you think you are safe, the zombies come after you. It seems the fresher the zombie, the more aggressive they are. They can climb up to the roofs, jump and run. The more decayed older ones will see you and climb over a balcony to the ground, kind of funny.

IMHO, melee combat/control scheme is not very fun or quite as functional. For one thing, they made this grapple button move the same as a survival/hint button. It is counter intuitive and messes up your grapple intents.

Checkpoints really just annoy me. If you are in the middle of a mission and you die, it sends you back to the last safe zone you were in. However...it saves the progress of what you were doing in the last area/vicinity you were in. So if you just killed an enemy or closed a door before you die, you have to double back and run all the way back there. The enemy is dead or the door is closed so all your progress technically isn't gone. So I mean, that's alright, however it just seems like a counter-intuitive flawed way of doing checkpoints. It probably would be too hard to do autosaving, but it is autosaving your kills and things you did in a safe zone before you die and send you back to the last safe zone.

I actually have no issues with the combat and control scheme.

I see what you're saying, but I think it's the best way to handle a game like this. If you die, you probably need to regroup and resupply weapons and health. Sending you back to a safe zone allows you to do this before heading back out.
