Here is my letter to the anti-video game nutcase:
Did Nero play GTA before he burned Rome and blamed it on the Christians? Did Charles Manson turn to Doom 3 before he led a motley crew family on a murdering rampage? Did Cain play Halo before he decided to stone Abel? NO. The fact of the matter is is that violence has existed long before video games have been out and have shown violent images. You are nothing more than a tool parading for the parents who choose not to become role-models for their children and leave it to their television set to teach them morals. I have a four year old son myself and he gets into fights at school periodically. Does that mean that my child has been playing violent video games? NO. It means he is a rambunctious little boy who hasn't fully comprehended the morals that I and my wife have been teaching him.
When he gets in trouble, I take the blame. That is called good parenting. And guess what? After a few trials of punishments, either corporal or otherwise, he no longer gets into fights in school. That, my friend, is the responsibility of the PARENT to take control of whats happening in their children's lives and mold it into acceptable behavior for society. Where you get this rubbish that video games are directly related to real life violence is beyond me.
You are not the pioneer of blaming differing forms of media for violent acts. In the sixties, comic books were to blame. In the eighties, it was music. Then, in the nineties, it was television itself. Now, you and your cohorts seek to find another way to shirk the responsibility off of parents to raise their children correctly by simply saying, "BLAME THE VIDEO GAMES!" It's old, and it's tired and you will never win. The only way you could POSSIBLY win is to brainwash every children with your own brand of morals and thoughts while simultaneously obliterating our First Amendment rights. Our God given rights.
So, whatever personal crusade or jihad you're on, please step down. You are doing nothing more than attempting to make this culture worse by releasing parents from parenting children and by subjugating our rights to have freedom of expression and freedom of speech. You are nothing more than a tool.
Insincerely and Disrespectfully,
Tommy Meyers
