E3 2009

I was watching G4 and their E3 coverage last night, and I couldn't stop staring at Olivian Munn and her miniskirt. Too bad I can't attend E3 otherwise I'd spend most of my time at the G4 booth lol.

Yeah shes a bit of a tramp. She's done a few things on the air that are sexual as ****, including deepthroating a hotdog and exposing her nipples. Rofl.

Nah, she's a gamer for real. She's actually pretty smart and on the up and up about things, as are most of the people on G4, but they're required to "play dumb" on screen a lot.

One of the guys years ago when they were trying to find their new replacement host and were going through a few people per month on the old AOTS (Before Olivia Munn, right after Sarah and the crazy Tech dude went on their hunnymoon) came out and said that behind the scenes everyone that works on the show knows their ****, but for the shows sake a lot of the times they have to go with "what works".

You gotta remember, it's an acting gig. It's not like their news reporters or anything, they're just people hosting a show on an overall gaming network.

yea...Sarah is working for Current now

Play dumb how? I got the impression that Morgan Webb knows what she's talking about more often than not. The only person who struck me as being particularly game-******ed was Olivia Munn when she was called over to cover something alongside the X-Play hosts. I've never seen Kristin Holt so I can't comment on her.

Their reviews, how they talk to the developers and such during interviews, their general attitude towards certain games are all part of the "act" that is G4. Sessler has come out and said a few times that he cannot STAND Halo 3, and he doesn't think it deserves any of the praise it gets, yet he talks it up all the time on x-play because it's in the script.

Just little things like that.

Oh, well yeah, that's just part of hosting a show that covers everything. If it were Adam's personal op/ed show, he'd be free to b**** about Halo all he wants, but since it's a general gaming show, he's gotta be more objective.

that's what Sesslers Soapbox is for....he was reading posts off the G4 message board and addressed a poster for saying that him and Morgan were paid by Microsoft and that's why they criticized Killzone 2.....he called him a ****ing ******....it was quite funny

Haha, nice. Still, I'm sure that's got some kind of disclaimer about how "Adam Sessler's views do not necessarily reflect those of G4, its staff, or its shareholders," right?

certainly, but its on the G4 website and its one of their more popular web only features

I've caught a few of them on X-Play's podcasts. One was about E3, actually.

Heh, sounds funny. I'd like to see that.

E3 is still going and the first game of the NBA Finals are tonight....LA is going to be very busy

Haven't all of the big presentations already come and gone, though?

Yeah, stuff to do there but not really much else of interest to show us. Unless they get some sweet interviews with important people behind good games, preferably accompanied by gameplay footage.

Im sure the residents of the city will be happy to have the nerds gone at the end of the week....we're notoriously cheap....

Theres still a pretty large influx of new articles coming from all kinds of sites about various games that are being demoed on the floor and hands-on reviews and such. That's all E3 ever is after the big 5 or 6 conferences.

Yeah, but I figure I'll catch most of that via X-Play's podcasts for the next, like, 2 weeks. That's how it worked for E3 '08, anyway.

Except when it comes to video games and useless memorabilia.

I'm pretty impressed with all 3 console's presentation, but I think Sony probably won this year's E3 due to their great lineup of exclusives, and even their motion detection technology seems to be a better game application than the other two. Project Natal looks nice, but I'm not sure how the absence of a controller will affect the type of games that can be developed for it. The problem with Microsoft's presentation is that Halo is a big part of it, and I'm not interested in Halo. But PS3 has several games that gotten my interest, like Among Thieves, inFamous, and GOW3. For Wii, I'm impressed with Matroid: Other M, but I'm less excited their other titles, including that multiplayer Mario game.

Here's how I rank the Big Three:

1) Sony
2) Microsoft
3) Nintendo

Project Natal looks nice, but I'm not sure how the absence of a controller will affect the type of games that can be developed for it.

Support of the controller for games isn't going to stop. They're not pulling a Wii and forcing everything to be motion capped, they're giving companies the option to add motion capturing to their games without having to forsake the controller. And example of how it "should" work;

Playing FPS with controller - want to give squad commands. Take right hand off buttons, map opens. Manipulate map with gestures / pointing and give order. Hand back on pad, map closes. Entire process - 2 seconds?

Or use binoculars or something in a game:

Now - open inventory or scroll to the right item with bumpers or something. Press button to select binocs. Press button to use binocs. When done, press button to stop using, and another button to return to gun.

Natal - hold thumb and forefinger around eye (just an example, Milo recognises this). When done, stop doing that.

If what you said will indeed happen, then I'll feel alot better about Project Natal. I like all those demo vids of people just using their hand gestures and body movement to play the games on Natal, but I also know that it is only good for games that don't have very deep gameplay. If they can incorporate the technology of Natal with games like Gears of War, Madden, Assassin's Creed, etc., then we will see a new beginning in video games.

It seems like they could just remap established controls to Natal's motion sensing with a patch, too. Like you'd start up Burnout: Paradise, it'll ask if you want to install updates, you do, and then the update allows the game to recognize you holding your hands out in front of you and turning a pretend steering wheel as the same control input as moving the analog stick. Microsoft's notorious for stringent standardization on all of the stuff on the 360, so I could see them standardizing the way Natal's controls are recognized in such a way that remapping gamepad controls to them wouldn't be too difficult.
