E3 2011

In all seriousness though I wonder how much PSN will influence developers and publishers. EA has been really supportive of Sony lately but with recent developments will the continue to be? What good is trying to force customers into online passes when they can't get online or fear the system is unsafe? And for smaller developers such as downloadable titles, why would they want to develop their games for and audience that may not have access to them?

This can't be good for Sony or the industry as a whole.

I was wondering this myself. Sony is going to catch flack for this, but not just from the consumer... I wouldn't be shocked if developers have a hard time fully trusting Sony after this. I mean, it's not REALLY Sony's fault for getting hacked (even though they called the hackers bluff...) but it's their fault for setting on the info.

It's going to hurt Sony... we just don't know how bad.

I definitely feel bad for any developers that are going to release a downloadable game on PSN in the coming weeks. :funny:

It's crazy how dependent some people are on the internet when it comes to gaming. I have barely even noticed that it's been down. I'm just hoping it's back up by May 10th.

Well, it looks like we already know one game to be announced on Microsoft´s press-conference....a "core" Kinect Shooter

Xbox 360 owners looking to use their Kinect controller to do some hands-free killing may want to pay attention to what young Microsoft Game Studios Vancouver is currently working on—a new "core AAA shooter experience using Kinect."

That's the description of MGS Vancouver's new game from one of its senior artists who says the developer, also known as Zipline Studios, as spotted by a NeoGAF forum member.

Artist Shawn Woods writes on his personal site that the year-old was originally focused on creating "social microtransaction games" but "our studio strategy has changed and now focuses on developing a core AAA shooter experience using Kinect."

Microsoft Game Studios Vancouver says on its site that it is "dedicated to making games for 'core' gamers" with a mission "to push the limits of proven and unexplored game development and show the world what's possible on Microsoft's game consoles."

According to some currently active job listings for the Vancouver-based team, the studios is "focused on bringing high quality, highly experimental gameplay to Xbox 360 and Kinect." That same listing describes its project as "an original IP that uses Kinect in new and unique ways." So, probably not that Gears of War Kinect experience we'd heard about, despite the above mock-up image.

MGS Vancouver also says it's working on "Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Kinect, and future gaming platforms."

So, the question that remains is, do they have anything outside Kinect?
They really need a kick ass E3 if they don´t want to be a laughing stock of the show.

I'm sure they'll have some traditional games to show, but I do expect it to be a very Kinect heavy press conference.

I WANT a Kinect heavy conference, and not a silly one. Show me some games that makes me say "Well, I gotta get one of those now."

The only Kinect game I have any interest in is Child of Eden, and you don't even need Kinect to play it, so I'm good without it.

Maybe I shouldn't have used heavy... But I would like for them to seriously give me a reason to want one.

Skittles doesn't cut it.

Am I the only one who's just never been interested in Kinect? The only game I actually look foward to (even though I don't own Kinect) is the upcoming Star Wars game.

Lol, call me old fashioned, but I love using a game controller.

To me Kinect seems more interesting as something built into windows media center as a remote control replacer or in general, TV/DVD/Blueray. For games it looks like rubbish tat to bugger around with for 30 minute and never touch again.

I still find the tech behind the Kinect great, but nothing has been announced that make me want to drop the money on one. I hope that changes to be honest.

The closest game that does it is GunStringer, that marionet shooter that Twisted Pixel are making.

Nope, I'm in the same boat. People can shout 'future of the industry', but I'm still not all that interested in it.

Oh yeah, the tech behind Kinect is great, the games? Nothing screams "buy a Kinect for this!"

IMHO they should probably change that.

Granted, it's still better than the bloody Move... and I own that hunk of crap.

IMO, there is a lot of potential on Kinect, but the thing is, MS doesn´t know what to do with that.
We only have to look at last E3 Kinect presentation, it was ridiculous, there was no WOW factor, only WTF?
Is like they don´t even try.
Saying this, yeah i expect a big focus on Kinect, which will be Microsoft´s downfall (it might not be, but i don´t see MS knowing what to do with their peripheral).

As for showing something that makes anyone want to buy Kinect...imo, don´t hold your breath.
You only have to look at what MS made for Kinect so far....Kinect Sports, Kinect, Kinectimals, Kinect Adventures.....besides, Microsoft only does what makes money, which means that, if Kinect is selling with nothing to show for it, why even try?

This is what i think Microsoft will announce:

- Something from Rare (I pray is Perfect Dark and not Kinect)
- Something from Remedy, which i don´t believe will Alan Wake 2, but Remedy is making something for the 360
- Kinect game from Lionhead (Molyneux like Kinect, tried to bring it to Fable III, and already said they are working with it)
- Halo 4 (trailer or something)
- Halo remake
- Codename: Kingdoms

It looks like a solid presentation if am right, but, imo, Microsoft needs a hell of a lot more than 2 or 3 games, they need credentials, they need first parties, they need recognizable "faces" outside Halo and Fable.... they have nothing of that.
Bottom line, they need a great publishing arm, and, at this point, Microsoft Game Studios is awful, one of the worst western publishers, only above Atari, which only makes downloadable games.

Having a bunch of drunk kids play Dance Central can make a party go from awesome, to epic in mere seconds. I had a bunch of people over at my house a few weekends ago and everyone was asking about the Kinect so finally we busted it out along with Dance Central. It was a lot of fun. I want to get that Michael Jackson game but i heard it blows ass. Ill also be looking forward to using Kinect with Forza 4 for the head tracking, hope they implement that with F1 2011 as well.

Another thing i was surprised to hear was how "mainstream" Kinect has become. A few girls, whom i know have never touched a game pad were asking about the Kinect.

That's the PS3.

I said before I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft talks about the "next gen" but I highly, highly doubt we get anything solid enough to start worrying about spending tons-o-money on the next system anytime soon.

Who knows how this year's E3 will go. Now that Nintendo announced their plans to unviel the Super Wii, you never know, MS may scramble to get their console to market quick.

They did that last time to get the next gen started before either of the other two by rushing out the 360...but that ended up giving us three years of major hardware malfunctions.

Hopefully they don't make that mistake again.

I think with Nintendo's new console on the horizon, Microsoft (and possibly Sony) might tease that they've got something in the pipeline, but they're not going to show anything this year. I think next year is a lock though.

Semi off-topic: Oh my god people! "10 year lifespan" =/= "We're going to wait 10 years to put out a console."

Confirmed fake.

Develop's report cited a "senior, trusted, well-placed source" who claimed that the successor to the Xbox 360 is real and sitting on the desks of an "unnamed Electronic Arts studio" in its non-finalized hardware form. Speculation by that source pointed to a "late 2012" launch for Microsoft's next-gen console.

Reached for comment on that rumor and speculation, EA categorically denied the report.

"This story is a total fabrication – 100 percent not true," said EA VP of communications Jeff Brown

Well, i said there would be a new 360 this year....
Either that, or to be released in 2012 the lattest....

As for EA VP saying it´s 100 percent not true......you guys should know by now that in the gaming industry, everything is denied until official announcement.
In 2009, Todd Howard said:

There are no current plans to make Elder Scrolls V, said Bethesda Softworks’ Todd Howard.
http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/08/elder-scrolls-mmo/

And we all know how that turned out ;)
Bottom line is, even if it´s true, even if there isn´t a new Xbox coming out, don´t believe everything you read.
If not this year, 2012 is a given....like i said :D
