Well, I guess we can kiss backwards compatibility good bye, at least for the Xbox 360 in light of this announcement.

On the plus side, I might be getting me an Xbone.

Backwards compatibility was never going to happen.

That's what they said about Microsoft getting rid of the DRM... and the region locking... and the Kinect.

***** enough (and buy a PS4) and your dreams will come true.

It is kind of amazing how much they've changed the One in a relatively short time.

It's not like they can just flip a switch. The Xbox One isn't powerful enough to emulate a 360, and Microsoft isn't going to re-engineer the hardware to be fully backwards compatible. At least not anytime soon.

Realistically the best you can hope for is like what happened with the 360 where they emulate a limited selection of games one at time. And just like the 360, most of them will be filled with bugs and glitches of varying severity.

My advice? If you want to play Xbox 360 games keep your Xbox 360. That's a pretty surefire way of being able to play Xbox 360 games.

Actually, they themselves say it might be, and that they're looking into it.

I am keeping my (third) 360, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop wanting BC.

Pipe dream do come true.

IF Rockstar is planning a new gen GTA V port then would they finally show up at E3 to talk about it or would they just have MS&Sony mention it on their behalf?

With parity across pretty much every aspect of both consoles now, whoever has the better games line up wins it this year (as it should be every year).

Backwards compatibility will still be an issue, at least for another year. Sony is ahead on that front.

I'm sure Microsoft will come up with something.

Rockstar never does E3. They may let another company announce something of thiers (like Agent at the Sony conference), but they've never had a presence there.

PS Now isn't BC to me, since you have to pay to play the games. Neither one of them has true BC, and I kind of doubt we're going to see either of them have it. So, I'd say they're pretty even in that department.

Yea I agree. I think PS Now is a slap in the face, especially if you've been with PS3 from the start and have a solid collection of PS3 titles. I mean with a service like PSNow they are completely ignoring an existing customer base.

Now, if they let me stream the games I already own for free, all will be completely forgiven.

Well I agree that it's a half-assed form of backwards compatibility, but it's better than nothing.

I am still curious to see what will come of those rumors of PS2 backwards compatibility. That has me more interested than PS3 (probably because I have a huge PS2 library).

Half-assed? I guarantee Playstation Now has more time and money put into it than other forms of backwards compatibility would have. If you don't like it, that's fine, but saying that Sony is being lazy is incredibly disingenuous.

Half-assed in the sense that it's not local.

Though I don't think they would do local if they could. I actually don't know if it's even possible. Microsoft is attempting it on the Xbox One for Xbox 360 games, but the PS3 was known for its difficult architecture.

But even if it were – and it might be – I doubt they would do it. This way they can make you pay again for games you already bought.

I call that half-assed BC.

Yea I'm not sure lazy is the right word. It's more along the lines of them spitting in the face of those who were with PS3 from the jump and then made the move to the PS4.

But they can make up for all of that by giving us brute force local PS2 emulation on the PS4. We know you can do it!

If anyone is wondering why I want that so bad, my PS3 collection has about seven titles. My PS2 collection has about sixty.

How is that spitting in anyone's face?

Sony is basically saying, thanks for supporting the ps3 and ps4, now go buy our games again. It's ignoring all the early ps4 adopters who would like to play their ps3 titles on their ps4. And that's what they're counting on. They're counting on those ps4 users to double dip. I know it's not "cool" to say anything remotely negative about Sony, but not everything they do is a home run. This service is one of em. It's great for those who bypassed the ps3, but completely ignores those of us who supported it and Sonys games and then made the jump to their new console.

But what are you suggesting? If you have a physical version of the game, they can't have some method that would allow the system to see you have it and okay it through a streaming system. Additionally it would cause a lot of fraud because you could run over to a friends house grab all their physical games and get a pass to play them on the streaming service. They can't track if someone actually owns the game or not.

The X1 does not support those that did the same thing either. So it's not like it's some lopsided ordeal.
