E3 2015

The current industry needs an intervention. This trend of games broken on release needs to end. No more day one patches, no more day one / on disc DLC. The annual-ization needs to stop.

Microsoft had to actually tell the press that Halo 5 would not be broken. I have been gaming for 20+ years, and I have never heard of a major company having to reassure people that a game would no be broken, much less a best selling one.

Reviewers now have to give games "provisional reviews", which is just insane.
This problem has been around for years. It only became relevant recently and won't stop anything.

EA's press conference may actually be great or well more interesting this time,Madden always interests me but last year's conference was pretty weak. However because of Star Wars Battlefront they may get positive buzz

The games I am looking most forward to are anything related to:

Mass Effect
Tomb Raider
The Division
Any news on a new Splinter Cell
Assassin's Creed
Watch Dogs 2

Are we likely to get anything on the other 2 Star Wars games?

Likely? I don't know about that. Possible, maybe. With Battlefront coming later this year, I doubt they would want to take too much attention away from that. The absolute most I would expect would be an early tease like that Mass Effect thing from last year.

Oh right. Makes sense.

I see them as the new shovel ware.

Shovelware is basically just something that is made with little effort and purely for reasons to cash in on licenses and fads. Sure, some indie games fit that bill, but trying to equate the entire genre of "indie" as shovelware is pretty silly, especially when there's a lot of indie games that are clearly made with a lot of time, heart and talent.

Yeah, considering the quality of a lot of Indie titles, labeling them shovel ware is a bit ridiculous. Smells of graphics and franchise fanboyism.

So what if it is tho? Honestly I don't spend the money I spend on these systems or PC.. To play games that look like they should be on SNES. Don't get me wrong, games like Shovel Knight are great and I'm glad I have it.. But Indy games shouldn't be a companies focus.

People love I talk about "Gone Home" and that was the most boring, piece of **** game I've ever played. There was nothing spooky (some reviews said it was the most creepy game they've played even tho it's not a horror game) about it.. Or engaging.. But at the end We just find out the main characters sister or whatever is gay. That was the entire build.

Wow. Such story telling. Much impressive.

Meanwhile a AAA game could be fantastic but get **** on because it's a sequel. Like I said.. Indy games, a lot of the time, come off as that mall hipster who walks around the mall.. Even tho he thinks he's to good to even be there.

I'm not saying Indy games shouldn't be on the system.. But if that's all you're telling me about going forward.. I legit don't care. Some others may.. But I know many that don't.. And it's not because they're fanboys or stupid graphic ****es.. I love the look of Fez.. But I hate the game.

It's fine if you're not into indie games (though I think classifying indie game as one big lump is sort of wrong to begin with, since indies cover various genres and are more a subset of gaming), but I think trying to devalue them as a whole as "shovelware" is...well, ignorant. It's fine not to like things, but I think if you're really going to belittle and degrade something, you at least have to be prepared to be called out for it.

Keep in mind I didn't say shovelware. I could see why someone WOULD.. but I didn't. I simply see them as a "hipster." Look at us and how cool we are. We're not AAA.. we're so much better.

Not ALL.. no, and I'm not saying ALL.. but many of the vocal ones just come off as *****ebags.

Phil Fish for example.

Anyway.. who really cares. If you love them fine.. if you hate them.. Great. I personally can't really get excited for them. I'm more or less indifferent because I WILL buy an Indy game if it speaks to me (Shovel Knight) and I got REALLY hyped for NMS.. now I just expect it to let me down.. And at this point it might as well be a AAA game, lol.

Well, you didn't here yeah, but elsewhere you might have implied it, eh ;)

But well, Phil Fish isn't the best to equate to indie games, either. His whole thing was pretty isolated, and I think most indie devs don't act in that manner.

Like I said, it's your opinion, so I'm not trying to change your mind. But just like some who thinks that all AAA games are broken, soulless cash grabs, in the end I don't think close-mindness really helps anything.

Eh, I saw your reply to me... No I said "They're almost like shovelware." :D

I mean at the speed the come out. Sure some take years.. and most could.. but I think they should be spaced out better. I think that would help. I really do. At this point it's a new indy game every few days.. And I could see where people would think "Man this is bad as the Wii crap.." Is it? No..No they're not. Just saying where I could see why someone would think that.

More so if you did buy a PS4 for big, massive AAA super graphic titles.

For example: PlayTonic.. the guys who were the Rare dudes that made Banjo, they crowd funded for Yuka-Laylee... They're ABSOLUTELY not shovelware.

No.

But they're 100% indy.

For now, until MS buys them up. Haha.

How many AAA games are "fantastic"? There aren't many Infinites or TLoU out there. Something like Shovel Knight plays better then any AAA released, potentially ever. And that is what I care about most, gameplay. As long as a game is in HD, I am good. And that is an eye fatigue thing.

There are a lot more gems in the Indies then AAA titles these days imo.

I like good games.

I don't care what their budget was.

really hoping we get to see Fallout 4 at E3.

Yeah, that is the big reveal I am waiting for. Well that, and GoW4, but that is every year and It almost never happens. So I don't expect it.

Oh this discussion is happening here too? I'll just repeat from the other thread out of laziness:

Indie games are fine and many are really fun, but for me they are the side dish while the AAAs are the main course. If you took away AAAs entirely I don't think I'd keep gaming while the reverse is not true.

Square has moved their press conference from 9AM to 10AM.

I'm 100% sure Fallout 4 will be announced.

Personally I'm more excited to see Doom 4.

After Doom 3, I have no expectations for Doom 4.
