Edgar Wright Heads For DreamWorks Animation’s Shadows Project
by Dominic Patten

In what will be his first fully animated feature debut, the Shaun Of The Dead director is taking on DreamWorks Animation’s shadowy pic. The Jeffrey Katzenberg run ‘toon studio announced today that Edgar Wright will helm and co-write a as yet-untitled feature “centered on the concept of shadows.” No release date has been set.

This David Walliams co-written effort is not a revamping on the long on hold Me & My Shadow feature, sources say but something entirely original dealing with a the same basic concept. “Edgar will spearhead a new approach to this fascinating concept and we’re ecstatic to have him onboard as director along with David as co-writer,” DreamWorks Animation’s Co-Presidents of Feature Animation Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria Thursday. “We’ve always been intrigued by a film concept involving shadows, and now with Edgar’s signature comedic style and abilities as a natural storyteller, audiences will be treated to a truly captivating and energetic tale.”

While the Shadows project is the first completely animated feature Wright will direct, The Adventures of Tintin writer is working on the live and animated hybrid Fortunately, the Milk with Johnny Depp starring and producing.

“My first endeavors in film-making as a teenager were in animation, so it was hugely intriguing to get a call from DreamWorks Animation about potentially directing,” added Wright in a statement. “When the Shadows concept was suggested to me, I could see the poster, the title sequence and pretty much the whole movie. It’s a blast writing this and to have one of my oldest friends in comedy, David Walliams, along for the adventure is a thrill.”

Wright is repped by CAA, Independent Talent Group and Anonymous Content. Little Britain c0-creator and co-star and Britain’s Got Talent judge Walliams is repped by CAA and Troika.

Cool. Interesting team up with Walliams, too.

Wrights got a lot of projects in the pipeline.

Aiming for a 2019 release.

As for Shadows, it’s a reworking of an earlier project titled Me and My Shadow. That film was to center around a shadow attached to the world’s most boring human. The frustrated shadow tries to bring some more excitement into his life, with potentially disastrous results. The project has been stuck in development hell for the past several years but found new life when Wright and David Walliams came on board to write. They’re apparently going in an entirely different direction with the tale, so it’s unclear how much of that earlier concept will remain.

I was wondering about that movie! It sounded so promising for Dreamworks and it went nowhere. Very happy to see Wright seems to be bringing this back to life!

Wow that's a good combo. I actually think dreamworks are vastly underrated with their animated movies
