Iron Man 2 Edward Norton / Bruce Banner / Hulk Cameo

I think Marvel may have gotten a little too crossover happy for their own good. Re-digging a scene from TIH? We aren't all idiots Marvel... obviously not everyone saw TIH but I am sure most are aware of it by now.

They're establishing their combined universe, and it helps establish a timeline.

Did a very, very brief appearance on a background screen annoy you that much?

Meaning we don't need a dozen fan nods in every film. A couple should suffice. Maybe it's just me finding something to complain about, but I think they may have overdid it a little in IM2.

Well each to their own I suppose. I personally like this sort of thing.

I suppose I'm really just looking for some sort of confirmation that Norton is still involved with these things. If Banner/Hulk is to be involved in some capacity in The Avengers (and the scene in TIH with Stark + small reference in IM2 both seem to suggest that this is the plan) and they recast Banner it will be dreadful. It's already quite disappointing that Rhodey was recast if you ask me, though I seem to be in a minority on this one. It's the sort of thing they do in soap operas, and I expected better from Marvel I guess.

When these films were first announced, with the plan that they would crossover like the comic books and all that sort of thing, I was immediately excited by the prospect of one day watching them all back-to-back. The recasting done thus far* has already made that prospect significantly less-cool to my mind and if they go so far as to lose Norton completely the results will be catastrophic from a continuity point of view. These films should, when all is said and done, form a single experience and with that in mind it will be capsizingly distracting to suddenly see somebody else playing Banner IMO.

*This may make me seem somewhat obsessive but it even bugs me that they recast Howard Stark. Why didn't they cast the right actor in the first place, just in case they would require him to do more than just be in photographs (or whatever he did in the first film, I can't remember) for future installments? I can't believe that it was a scheduling thing or anything like that as to why they couldn't use the original actor so why couldn't they have planned ahead a little more?

You know this for a fact?

Skarsgard references Banner in Thor. Won't get into the exact dialogue, but it would make sense being they are both scientists in the film and probably are aware of each other's work.

As far as Hulk showing up, it would be a late addition if anything, or another news reel. Norton isn't even signed on as the last poster mentioned. Until that happens, you can't expect to see Banner unless they pull a scene from TIH or get another actor. And I agree with the previous poster; if they recast it will be a disaster, and losing Howard wouldn't compare to it.

Get used to it, because it will happen again... and again... and again. It's a business. Can't expect an actor to be committed to one role for life.

Yeah, I get that it goes on and will continue to go on. I just find it embarrassing and distracting is all. And beyond just the superficial distraction of recasting and so on it is also subconsciously a factor. We invest in actors as characters what with the good old suspension of disbelief and that being the case something is obviously lost when that actor is replaced. It doesn't really matter if Cheadle is as good as or better than Howard as an actor. Any change of this nature does significant damage that, whilst not immediately apparent on the surface, does go a long way to cheapening the overall emotional experience.

I'd agree if not for the fact that Howard was the only thing I didn't like about IM. He's so...bleh. Replacing Norton would kill me though. He's one of my favorite actors and definitely saved that franchise in my eyes.

I absolutely LOVE Edward Norton, and I agree .. No Norton? No Bruce Banner in my eyes. :/

What's the latest with him, anyway?

He's flipping and flopping back and forth more than anything I ever could have imagined. In one interview he'll be all "No, no I don't think so..." and in the next he'll act like he's doing it OBVIOUSLY. So who knows?

From WorstPreviews, about 2-3 weeks ago...
Norton has been refusing to talk about his participation with the movie, but has stated that if fans want him to play Bruce Banner in "The Avengers," then he'll likely be there.
