so what would be the best/coolest looking armor for a "Silver Knight" build?

I would say Steel Plate specifically. To me it felt like the most knightly armor in the game.

I just finished Dawnguard and I thought it was amazing. Very atmospheric with a cool story and Serana was a great character. I echo statements that she should've been marriage material.

The only part I thought was kinda slow was the Soul Cairn stuff but otherwise A+ from me. Starting on my house now...woo!

Yea I'm pretty much with you on that assessment.

So far some of the most fun iv had was in building my house.

It's so weird, I actively avoided getting Hearthfire because I thought it was pointless -but I totally agree. Hearthfire has done and continues to offer hours of fun.

^ does it cost money to build your own house in Hearthfire?

is it more expensive to build your own house vs purchasing an existing house?

It costs $5k for the spot of land, then you have to go about getting certain building materials and furnishings. So, yeah, it costs some money, but by the time I was ready for a house I had over 100k just sitting doing nothing lol so it really didn't make a big difference.

Seeing the house come together one section at a time is epic.

thanks. so what's the fastest way to earn money, especially early on?

Put a few points into Speech to get better prices and once you are able take the "Invest" perk. Then, go to Riverwood and invest in the local merchant guy there and it instantly gives him 10k to barter with.

From there, just sell everything you can, basically. Obviously the higher your level the better loot (and therefore more cash) you're going to get, but the process is still the same if you're lower level. Also, you can craft and enchant your own items to increase their value while also increasing your level/skills.

Alternately, join the Thieves guild so you can sell stolen items, but honestly I found that took way longer than investing in the Riverwood guy.

And don't forget to loot every corpse, the 5 or so gold you find on each dead body will soon add up. Also chests, vases, any kind of container.

Yeah I just finished 10 mins ago. The characters & story were good & I'm glad I've got a cool follower once again (all my other ones have died or got lost somehow :csad:). Definitely worth getting & playing through. Now just got to tie up the loose ends.

10 minutes ago? What are you, on PS3? Bwahahahahah.

Anywho, what side did you choose?

Speaking of which, not sure if it was posted, but Beth apparently tweeted on the 8th that they're "close" to releasing the DLC for PS3. Whether close means in 2 weeks, or 2 months...who knows. It gives me hope atleast, lol. My only worry is that if they take too long, it will be like the GTA IV episodes where I lost interest while waiting with all of the other games that were coming out.

Elder Scrolls V publisher thanks fans for patience, says missing DLC for PS3 and PC is coming soon.

The wait for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim add-on content for the PlayStation 3 appears to be coming to a close. A tweet from Bethesda last night said the company is "close" to bringing the missing downloadable content to the PS3, as well as the PC.

Yay! DLC for my game soon! I hope we get Hearthfire as well.

It'll be nice if everybody can have access to the dlc before the next one comes out.

I just loot everything I can from tombs until I reach the weight limit. Go for low weight and high value as much as possible. Early game this is leather armor and steel helms. Soon enough you will be finding gems and more rare weapons and armor to sell.

Also consider joining the thieves guild. One of the first things I did was pickpocket everyone sleeping at the Boarding House in Riften...I've never gone hungry again.

Finally, find the Mask of Clavicus Vile. It substantially improves your negotiating power when selling your junk. You can get the quest by going to Falkreach and helping the blacksmith find his dog. You have to do the quest right to get the mask, otherwise you will get a different reward....to get the mask just do what the dog wants and don't listen to anyone else.

I got stuck as I was trying to speak to Garan as a vampire and couldn't get anything out of him. Figured out recently that I can revert to normal form (& need to to progress). The instruction that tells you about it was hidden by a sticker on my TV. :woot::csad: Thought it was a glitch so stopped playing waiting for it to be fixed. Ironic how the day I get back into it Dawnguard goes on sale. :cmad:

hey, thanks for your suggestions, guys!!

although joining the Thieves Guild would be against my knightly character, role playing wise...........

are their certain shops that pay you better for loot?

Yeah, best is the guy from the Thieves Guild (when you complete it). :woot:

Money will come if you level up quickly. Don't bother picking up every item just good value for weight goods (as mentioned above). Otherwise you will get seriously burnt out maxing out your weight in the middle of narrative missions when you don't want to exit and return to a shop. Also more important than the rate the shop pays (which I don't think varies all that wildly) the limit on the total amount that they can pay in one go is what can be restrictive. Otherwise to sell one full weight capacity of equipment you have to visit multiple shops or continually rest for days in between.

Edit: Actually Balthus Dire covered a good strategy above. I used Riverwood but without investing and the equipment limit really began to piss me off as I like to carry a wide variety of stuff permanently.

^ thanks.

how bout joining the Companions and doing the random quests for them......can you earn good, steady money through that?

You can earn through The Companions and the work is always there, but it's a fairly slow way to make money compared to pretty much any of the other methods listed above. You might get paid a few hundred gold to travel aaaaaaall the way across the map to beat some guy up and then travel aaaaaaall the way back, but you could have made five times that by doing a single story quest.

My level 32 character killed a thief on the road the other day and upon checking his corpse found a diamond worth 800 gold. Samwise is dead on when he says to go for light weight and high value. Those ebony boots might be worth a lot, but what's the point when you can take a necklace that's fifty times lighter and four times the price?

Quests won't really net you money as most quest payouts are hilariously minimal (500 gold? HAH!). The real money comes from looting during those quests and then selling the stuff afterwards.

The problem with doing the Thieves Guild fence is that it's very time consuming to get the fence up to 4k per transaction, and even when she hits 4k, it's still only 4k lol. That's a lot of waiting 48 hours for her money to reset.

If you do the Riverwood guy like I said, you have to take the perk that allows you to sell any item to any merchant anyway in order to get the "Invest" perk, so not only will he have 10k+ in gold to barter with but you'll be able to sell him literally anything from your inventory. No item managing, no nonsense, and you can get 10k in gold before having to worry about the 48 hour wait period.

Yeah, just not that fast like Thieves Guild. If you're a noble warrior type who can't do Thieves Guild you should probably be doing as much as you can with the Companions anyway to keep in character haha. I always have just one character who does everything. The most noble, good hearted, evil bastard in Skyrim!

If you're out in the open & clearing out the places you pass through you'll pick up plenty of stuff (including dragon bones which are worth a fair bit) and can transport straight to a shop and close to where you were (last landmark crossed). Gets difficult when you are in a dungeon or on a specific/long mission so always unload all your non essential equipment when you are outside regularly. Apart from a reasonable number of potions you should only keep things you are planning to keep for the whole game. Any non unique weapons & armour should be replaced when you get something better. Don't get too nostalgic lol. If you like books or certain trinkets or like having one of every individual weapon/armour, store them in your house. Don't carry them!
