Elder Scrolls V

So with all the talk of the Skyrim remaster, I decided to replay Oblivion. Any time I play these games I become a lore junkie and spend hours reading the wikis. It amazes me how intricate the history of the universe that Bethesda created is. It is Tolkein-esque in scale, really.

That said, I know the popular rumor is that TES VI is going to be set in the Black Marsh. I really hope that isn't the case. While it has potential to have the other worldly nature of Morrowind, I just can't get too excited about a game that will be primarily populated by Aragonians. I'd find it really hard to immerse myself in that world (which is a must for a TES game).

Plus, from a lore perspective, it is really the least interesting of the available options. Skyrim set the table so well for the Aldmeri Dominion. I'd much prefer a combined game of Valenwood (wood elves) and Summerset Isles (High Elves). Both are smaller countries, but combined it would be at the scale of Skyrim (probably larger). Plus, with the war with the Dominion, it offers the best story telling options.

That said, I really would like to see Bethesda revisit High Rock. I know they already tried in Daggerfall, but Daggerfall was ahead of its time and overly ambitious and it resulted in a mediocre, forgettable game. That said, the setting of High Rock has so much potential. It is essentially a bunch of feudal lords ruling over a bunch of city states (with some orcs thrown in for good measure). I feel like it would really lend itself to a Game of Thrones style world. I would love to see something like that over a barren swamp land filled with lizard-people.

I also hope they continue on with the Aldmeri Dominion plot. My first time through playing Skyrim I was kind of disappointed in how they only scratched the surface of that story. With the High Elves being such jerks I'm really hoping to get some tidy revenge.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to carrying on that story line. Unfortunately, if the Aragonia rumors are true, it doesn't get much further away from the Dominion. It is literally on the other side of the continent and the Aragonians are independent of both them and the Empire so really have no stake in the war. They really just want to be left alone, it seems.

Plus, according to the lore, Aragonia is the one country that was never fully conquered by the Empire due to conquering it descending to a Vietnam-type situation (dense jungles that the Aragonians were able to fight in naturally and slowly chip away at the Empire through guerrillian tactics). It resulted in the Empire basically just taking a few cities in the north and retreating, calling Black Marsh their territory while the Aragonians mostly just went south to their inner-sanctum cities, kept to themselves, maintaining their own government and traditions, and letting the Empire have the moral victory of claiming to have conquered them (while exercising no real control).

What I am getting at is, Aragonia is pretty far removed from just about everything in the TES mythology. It is an alien land that has barely been touched by outside influence. From a story perspective, it would be odd to see the Aldmeri suddenly able to conquer it when no one else could. Especially when they are fighting a war on two fronts with the Empire (more or less) and Hammerfell (Redguards). And possibly even Skyrim if Ulfric won the war. Further, with so little outside influence on the Black Marsh, I can't see how it would get sucked in to such a war.

I'd guess that a story set there would be pretty self-contained, like Morrowind, which would be unfortunate since the Aldmeri are the most interesting antagonist concept that the franchise has ever had.

I'd also like it if there were two countries this time around. It'd be interesting to have a border. But that might be wishful thinking. I like the idea of setting the next game in the Summerset Isles, it always sounded like the next logical place while playing Skyrim.

Incidentally, I really hope that whatever Bethesda decide to do with the next Elder Scrolls game they don't go the same route as they did with Fallout 4. I'd like a return to full written dialogue for the player, and more emphasis on a fascinating world rather than killing everything you encounter. I imagine there's a better chance of an engaging game with Elder Scrolls than Fallout due to the lack of guns.

And it's a little thing, but I'd also love to see your current weapon be visible on your character when not in use. The disappearing guns in Fallout 4 were disappointing.

Yeah, I too found that to be an odd creative choice. Luckily it is not one Bethesda has adopted for any TES game thus far. Unfortunately, it seems like, in many ways, Fallout 4 was an extension of Skyrim. More hack and slash, combat driven. 99 % of the quests are just run and fetch. I hope TES VI gets back more its Morrowind roots.

They don't even have to do whole countries. They could do it like in Daggerfall or Morrowind and just zoom in on one region of a province.

I just had a thought ... Skyrim has never been available for download on PSN for PS3. I wonder/hope the Remastered version will be for Ps4. It's one of the games I had to sell since my PS3 doesn't play discs anymore, so I've prefered to go all digital this gen, and would love to be able to download it in the event that something similar happens to my PS4.

I'm inclined to think they'll let players download since digital has become much more prevalent than it was when it originally came out.

Well, through Zenimax, BEthesda dipped their toes in that pool with ESO. So maybe.

I love watching these kinds of comparison videos. Definitely has me excited for the remaster.

I'm 100% fine with this. They need a new damn engine. Figure that out THEN work on ES6.

Well poop.

After the disappointment of Fallout 4 I was really hoping to see Bethesda get back on track with a new Elder Scrolls game sooner rather than later. Given how beloved the series is it's a little surprising, I thought they would have been looking to get a new ES game out in 2018.

I would like to imagine these games take time as they probably become increasingly bigger and mors tasking to make. My question is if we will see a new ES this gen at all or if gen 8 is only ESO updates and Skyrim again?

If Neo and Scorpio extend the gen like I feel like Sony and MS have in mind, we could still see it, but probably on like the tail end when we're getting hardware that's a step above just an updated revision.

So After trying out VR last week and seeing the rig my cousin has at his house, I decided to give PC gaming a try. I got Skyrim last week on sale for like $10 and I've been messing around learning how to add mods and stuff for the past couple of days.

I already had a save game but I wasn't happy with the mods or my character, and I kept noticing things didn't look as good after I added more mods. But I just started a new game and am really satisfied so far with how the game looks. It kinda makes me feel spoiled now because I doubt the remaster will look half as good and I was really looking forward to replaying it on PS4.

as I said in the PS4 thread, that's a major dealbreaker for me. even more so than the Pro lacking a 4K player, because this actually affects gameplay features.

I have been patiently waiting for mods for Fallout 4 and that was a big selling point for Skyrim Remaster. If I'm not going to be able to enjoy that feature on my PS4, and if it's because of Sony's own policies ( they are also the ones holding back cross platform play, too, aren't they? ), then that is yet another incentive for me to go with MS and the X1 S.

well, done Sony. well, done. you're succeeding in driving me towards your competition.

I was already at a point of selling both my PS4 and Wii U. Every month I've sold a Wii U title, and now I'm just down to Xenoblade X (a game I bought and never played) and DKR: TF. I have only two games left on the Wii U and haven't touched it all 2016.

The PS4 is just as bad. There aren't any games I want for this system, and I currently have no physical games on it (I sold all of them), having only the pre-installed TLoU, which I didn't like anyway. Skyrim for the PS4 with mods was the only reason I held onto my PS4, and now that's been retracted, so why do I still own this system? Besides, selling it at any price would be a profit, when I bought it the money was never withdrawn from my account and its been over two years. I got charged a weird 30 dollar fee from my bank. So...30 bucks for at the time a new PS4.

I currently only play my 3DS (I have 20 3DS games, 50+ DS games I still play and 33 games installed on the 3DS) and Skyrim on my PS3, which modding is impossible, so why would I pay 60 dollars for the PS3 version again? Graphically, the Remastered isn't that much better looking than the PS3 version?

I won't justify getting another system I don't want (Xbox One) for just one game I played to death on the PS3 just for mods, and I'm not converting into a PC gamer for a myriad of reasons.

Bethesda confirmed the mods will be available for the Xbox.
