Elder Scrolls V

I just built my first PC and I've been experimenting with mods in Skyrim, and I like how the game looks with certain lighting mods, and the fact that I created a pretty female to play as.

But overall, I'm still looking forward to the remaster. I'm very curious to see how it compares to the PS3 version, and I can't wait to get the platinum again. To me, mods are simply an enhancement, not a necessity, and not having them should not be a hindrance to my enjoyment of the game as it was made.

but if you are paying full price for a game, and 1 feature is entirely missing from your version of the game, then that doesn't sit right.

I wouldn't like that. I certainly wouldn't feel like I'm getting the full $60 worth if I got the PS4 version.

Yeah, I already have it on PS3, $60 isn't worth it for me without mods.

But that feature was never guaranteed or promised. They said they were working with Sony to get it, but they never guaranteed it.
 
My main interest in mods was being able to have new quests, creatures, armor, weapons, powers, etc. Without that, as far as I know, the remaster is just a prettier version of a game I already put hundreds of hours into which doesn't interest me.

I mentioned in the Fallout thread that the chances of purchasing a Skyrim remaster were slim anyway, but it was the potential for mods that gave me any interest to begin with. Without mods the Skyrim remaster will be quickly forgotten.

when they revealed Skyrim Remaster ( or Special Edition whatever it's called ), they specifically mentioned that it would support console mods on both the X1 and PS4.

the PS store listing for it still, as of today, says it includes Mod support.

That is advertising a feature that will no longer be available on the PS4 version, unless the situation changes.

I've seen quite a few people in the comments section mention that they've already preordered the digital version on the PS store, where there are no refunds. I'd say they have a case now to demand a refund because that's tantamount to false advertising.

And they better hope that the official box art and description haven't already been finalized and printed out, cuz if it still lists mod support on the back of the PS4 version come release day, then THAT would also be false advertising.

even if you haven't preordered the game, console mod support is still a strong selling point of the Remaster.

And now, that's being taken away for one of the consoles. It's not being removed for both consoles. Just one. And that changes your perspective on which version to get.

If you want the "complete" version that does support mods, then there's no other choice but to go with the X1.

Unless the situation changes between Sony and Beth, that's what it is looking like for me, now.

Why have Sony blocked the mod feature? Isn't it peculiar that Microsoft don't seem to have an issue with it, but Sony do?

Its not that simple. They didnt block it. Bethesda was having trouble getting it to work

However, as outlined on the Bethesda website, there are some known issues with PS4 mods to be aware of.

These significant-sounding problems include sound files not working on PS4 and a mod storage limit of 900 MB. By comparison, Fallout 4 mods on Xbox One have a limit of 2 GB.

Another issue is Fallout 4 mods on PS4 may lead to memory and performance issues. For all the known issues, Bethesda said it is working with Sony to find solutions before Fallout 4's mods program is released in full on PS4.

KNOWN ISSUES WITH PS4 MODS
  • PC textures are used. Memory and performance issues may occur. We are working with Sony on optimal texture exporting support in a future update.
  • Sound files are currently not supported. PS4 sound format is a proprietary format. We are working with Sony on sound file processing support in a future update.
  • PS4 Mod Storage limit is approximately 900 MB at present. Please do not upload mods larger than 900 MB. We are working with Sony to increase this limit.

They couldnt get it to work and Sony wouldnt compromise. Would people rather they release mods and we get the same issues from Bethesda's games last gen? It would probably do more damage to have mods in and cause it to break the game and negatively affect the experience

Bethesda definitely threw Sony under the bus and werent forthcoming with their own shortcomings. It'll be interesting to see if Sony responds as it could get ugly

according to Bethesda, they have.......lol.

and until Sony comes out and gives their side of the situation, that's the impression the public will have - that it's Sony's fault.

it does make you wonder why the less powerful X1 can support Mods, while the more powerful PS4 seemingly has a hard time.

Is it due to the "architecture" of the PS4? Or is it due to Sony's own policies?

Regardless, it doesn't look good when your (weaker) competitor offers a feature that you don't.

And for me, this lack of PS4 mods is actually a bigger deal than the lack of a 4K player in the Pro. cuz this actually pertains to gameplay features in a game I'm looking forward to play.

If Sony and Beth can't work out the differences and resolve this, and if the X1 becomes the only console that supports mods in Skyrim and future games from Beth ( and other companies like Bioware ), then that would be a factor in determining which console to game on.

If I don't own an X1 by October, I'm certainly not going to be getting the PS4 version of Skyrim ( as I had originally intended ) if it doesn't support mods.

Say what you will, Bethesda said there'd be mods before (apparently) they knew it was even possible on PS4. They should have figured all that stuff out before saying they could do it. I'm sure the campaign to say that Sony hates Mods will gain traction, but Bethesda still **** the bed here.

Agreed. They never should have announced it for Skyrim when they knew they were already having major issues with Fallout. Thats on them

Interesting! It does sound like both are at fault, but Bethesda more so in my opinion. If they couldn't get it to work they shouldn't have even bothered announcing it. Get it working first, then make it public -it appears they jumped the gun. I can't blame Sony too much, with this information, for not wanting to sell a broken product.
 
so, it looks like Gamestop has updated their description of PS4 Skyrim to remove reference to Mods. Mods are still mentioned for the X1 version.

however, Best Buy and the PS Store both still list Mods for the PS4 version.
 
I was going to buy it anyway probably, but this is definitely good news.
 
These are exacty the kind of games I want them to be able to max out graphically, at least by console standards. I really hope they've managed to do it.
