Elder Scrolls V

It always worked. Sony just stopped being stupid and finally allowed it.

That's good to hear, the lack of mod support was a deal breaker for me so glad to see they've put it back in.

yeah. It was a deal breaker for me, too. so I'm very glad to hear this news and glad Sony and Bethesda got it resolved. win-win for everyone!

Wait, so it's back on then? They managed to get it to work?

yep!! it's great news!! it looks like they managed to work out whatever differences they had.

but even more importantly, Skyrim will support Pro with native 4K and it looks like Fallout 4 will get a similar treatment.

Yeah it was a deal breaker for me as well. Glad to see I back in. Purchase confirmed.

so, it looks like there might be a "caveat" if you read the announcement article.

Mods on PS4 won't allow "external assets"?

what does that mean?

is that a big deal?

It means you can't download mods made with custom assets that aren't in the game.

^ ah, thanks.

I guess that is limiting to an extent. but better than nothing, I guess.

do most mods on PC/X1 use external custom assets?

I really don't know. I would probably say yes though, because I think a lot of the most popular mods are stuff like enhanced textures and other custom graphical improvements, but some of that stuff is already in the new version of the game. Sadly, even so, many more of the popular mods are totally custom armors, weapons, character models, etc.

Like you said, it's very limiting, but it's also better than nothing. :/

^ I see thanks.

well, we take our victories where we can.....lol.

who knows, maybe they will ease up on this restriction in due time, too.

after all, a month ago, there were going to be NO mods on the PS4.

and I'm actually more excited for the native 4K support with the Pro.

In the end, I probably won't use mods much anyways. but it's nice to at least have it in some form on the PS4.

This is probably the game I would most want mods for. Glad it was resolved. I guess not allowing external assets is for security reasons?

Oh yeah, makes sense.

most likely memory
Yeah, I recently got it for PC and experimented with mods that did all sorts of things like add 4K textures and completely change the lighting. Even though I made sure all these mods worked properly, the bigger issue was that Skyrim has this issue where your memory can't go above a certain point, because once it does, it immediately crashes to desktop. I eventually found a way to downgrade the mods while still improving the experience, but it's still a headache to deal with. So I'd imagine Sony didn't want a similar issue with this version.

It always worked. Sony just stopped being stupid and finally allowed it.

or Bethesda finally gave in and followed their guidelines. Sony was never against mods. Bethesda said it wasnt going to happen bc Sony wouldnt approve the mods the way Bethesda felt they should work which would be to allow the user to do anything. We are getting mods now and and its without external assets which really limits this. I dont think Sony really budged more than Bethesda adjusted how they were going to release this

Million dollar question for people who know more about these things than my technologically illiterate ass does:

Will I be able to mod spiders out of the game?

I don't play PC games. What are custom and external assets?

Also, will players be able to make mods or just Bethseda?

Would modders be able to make a mod that gives you infinite upgrade points from the get go? Or modding Dragonsoul to increase health, stamina, and magic?

Yes.

External assets would be things that players create that don't exist in the game.

For example:

maxresdefault.jpg

If you wanted to play through Skyrim as Solid Snake, you wouldn't be able to do that on PS4 because that character model, those textures, maybe some animations, etc. don't exist in the game. Someone created that mod from scratch.

Think of it like Legos. Imagine you have like, a police station set or something. You could make a police station or you could make all sorts of different buildings or cars in different configurations and things like that. However if you wanted to build a TIE Fighter it would be impossible. Sure if you were really imaginative you could maybe make a rough approximation of of one using those police Legos, but without the actual TIE Fighter set you can't really make one.

PC players have the police station set, the TIE Fighter set, and nearly any other Lego set they can dream of, while PS4 players have the police station set only.

Also, will players be able to make mods or just Bethseda?

Yes players will be able to make mods. Bethesda doesn't really do that, unless you count patches and DLC as mods.

Would modders be able to make a mod that gives you infinite upgrade points from the get go? Or modding Dragonsoul to increase health, stamina, and magic?

Yes, that's just math.

Yes.

Where does this place XB1 mods?

I don't know. I don't have an Xbox. I don't follow Xbox news very closely.

I think XB1 might have access to all mods, but I don't actually know that for a fact.

Would modders be able to make a mod that gives you infinite upgrade points from the get go? Or modding Dragonsoul to increase health, stamina, and magic?
Those are the simplest of mods. :yay:

I really only want the console version with the least limitations with mods. If the PS4 and XB1 mods are about equal, I'll get the PS4 version, but since I am getting a XB1 now, if that version has more freedom on modding, I want to know before I'm stuck with the wrong console version.

Going PC is not an option.

Also I highly doubt any essential mods will be available as soon as this rerelease is out so that'll give me time to figure this out. How long after Fallout 4 allowed mods on any platform (Xbox or PC) did it take to see big mods?
