Mystery/Thriller Elementary - CBS's Modern Take on Sherlock

Since it has been renewed though, it looks like season 7 will be a reboot of sorts. It might be more classic Sherlock Holmes instead with Holmes and Watson operating in England instead.

They can't really go back to New York or ever work for the department there again. The way things ended with Gregson puts a strain on their relationship too. And Marcus is joining the US Marshalls so he won't be around. So it looks like it will be an entirely new supporting cast.

I think it could be exciting and a breath of fresh air to take place in and around London and see them operating out of Baker Street.

It does look like it could have been the series finale though. But I'm interested to see their London cases now.

Elementary was renewed for a seventh season quite awhile ago, but this sure did seem like a series finale...

Apparently the finale was filmed back when there were only 13 episodes ordered. So this was the 13th and last week's was the 12th. But then more were ordered so these two got pushed back and others were inserted in to fill out the season.

The showrunner Rob Doherty said the season finale was intended as a series finale as they didn't think they were getting renewed which is why they had killed off Mycroft, Sherlock confess he loved Joan, Marcus join the Marshalls, Gregson's relationship with Sherlock implode and Sherlock/Watson forced into exile to the UK.

Doherty also said they would of explored the Micheal character way more if they knew they were getting more episodes. That makes sense because his storyline seemed a bit rushed when he got back to New York. You got the feeling they had more stories to tell with his character before his early demise.

The Seventh season will start in London.

221b Baker Street actually looks like it was located in central London in the finale and not in Shoreditch, East London like it was in the previous London based episode.

It would be cool if we could see Kitty, Lestrade and Moriarty again since all the actors are in London so it would probably be easier to get them on the show.

The should also get Robert Carlyle as a guest villain on the show now he is done with Once Upon A Time. Miller has got his actor buddies on the show before (Vinnie Jones & Sean Pertwee) and Carlyle is fantastic at playing bad guys.

I would prefer it relocated to London instead of continuing in New York. It would give it an injection of new life. There's meant to be a time jump of about a year when Season 7 starts.

And it would be great to see Kitty again. I don't remember Lestrade.

They could always have Marcus coming over on a case while working for the US Marshalls. Don't know how they'd get Gregson on, unless he has abandoned the NYPD. How did they solve crimes in the intervening year since they no longer had Holmes and Watson, and Dt Bell was no longer working for them?

BTW, if they did decide to end there, it would've been a very satisfying conclusion that would've ended the series on a great note, putting them back into the classic setting with more adventures for them to have in England.

For such a short scene, it’s almost certain that a NYC location was made to look like "Baker Street" - which would account for the difference. (In-universe: perhaps Morland Holmes did major renovations to 221B. And we now see that there’s a 221A next door. :cwink:)

According to reports, the production will return to (actual) London for the start of season seven.

They have so many great locations to film around London. Stan Lee's Lucky Man used it to great effect in all three seasons with some great cinematography.

It did look like a London street quite a bit though. Even the style of buildings. I don't know if they have that sort of architecture there in NY (if it's even filmed in NY). Also they had a red London bus and another green bus too.

Not sure if it looked like a road in Baker Street though. It certainly doesn't look like the actual Baker Street itself, because that road is busier. This looks a bit quieter and a little more secluded, like a side road and not the main road of Baker Street.

Oh, right I forgot about that. It was a late renewal on season 6 which led to this working as a series finale before they knew. Though it does double as a reboot for them of sorts which works out too.

Well it had a good run, and the end of the sixth season seemed like it could've been the series finale when they moved back to London. It appears though that they won't stay in London for long, which is a shame. But I guess they want the whole gang back together for the final season, which is why they bring them back to New York. I wouldn't mind if they do end up back in London again though for the finale.

I wonder if we'll get Moriarty to reappear for the final series. Or have they dropped her character? Is Natalie Dormer too busy with other things?

It would be nice to get closure on her.

But... according to the Deadline article, James Frain will be season 7’s Big Bad - playing “the great Holmes foe” Odin Reichenback. Hello? No such character exists in the original A. Conan Doyle canon; and I’ve never heard of a villain by that name in any non-canonical material. So… not quite “great.”

I don't think Natalie Dormer is busy. Her character died a while ago on Game Of Thrones, the hanging rock adaptation she filmed in Australia was aired and she made her movie she developed. If she had time to appear in that lame zombie movie patient zero then she probably has time to film for elementary.

The closest Reichenback I can think of is Reichenbach Falls. Does this mean the waterfall is Sherlocks arch-nemesis?

Haven't watched this since S3! Going to have to get caught up!!!

Yeah... I lost track after he did heroin in like s3/s4. This show is good, but it is a bit long in the tooth every season. Too many filler/villain of the week to keep me interested the past few years, sadly. If Smallville came out today, I wouldn’t have lasted every season like I did in the early 2000’s.

Long seasons definitely hurt the show. I pointed out in the past the cases they were on any average detective could've figured out. It made it a very run of the mill procedural show.

I think it's about right this shows ends now, although I wouldn't have minded had last season's finale been the series finale since it seemed like such a perfect ending point.

Ugh. Why is Lucy Liu blonde now? As if it weren't bad enough that Chloe Bennet went blonde as well. On some women with more olive skin complexion, blonde just doesn't work as well. We saw that with Jessica Alba too.

I see Ophelia Lovibond is guest starring as Kitty. She kind of just disappeared from Whiskey Cavalier.

I agree with you that most Asians and some other olive toned people just can't pull off blonde hair since it just washes them out. Hopefully that hair doesn't last that long into the season.
