Elimination game.

Casino Royale needs to die next.

Them's fighting words! :)

It's not the best, but at least top 5, IMHO.

Anyway, from here on it should be interesting.

Top 5? Bwahahahah!

It's a good film, but nowhere near top 5 Material. At least, top 10.

Think about it: Casino Royale is supposed to be a Bond film that goes back to Fleming roots; The film, however, deviates amazingly far from Fleming's novel of the same name. The only one of few similarities that is even close to the novel is the title -- that is to say that, in the novel Bond drives a Bently, and in the film he drives an Aston Martin (producers tried to use the 1964 DB5 to get fans of the movies to think that it was, indeed, back to Bond roots, but Bond does not drive an Aston Martin in the Casino Royale novel); Bond also uses a Beretta in the novel, but in the film it's a Walther P99; The card game is Baccarat in the novel, but switched out for Texas Hold 'em; Another example: Bond gets tortured with a carpet beater in the Book, but this, also, is changed for an anchor rope.

Although, Casino Royale contains great moments, it is nowhere near a great Bond film -- Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger.

I wish the final battle to be between the first three of Connery or with Casino Royale. The conflict of geneations would be quite interesting to watch in a case of Dr. No vs Casino Royale.

Raymond Benson is a very well known fan of Ian Fleming's Bond novels, the author of the highly regarded and informative James Bond Bedside Companion as well as numerous James Bond books. Having just watched it again last night I am inclined to agree with his comment that were it not for the nostalgia factor with the early Bond movies Casino Royale would easily be regarded as the best James Bond movie ever made. I don't understand how some of you can dislike it. Craig's performance was easily the best portrayal of Bond since Connery's in Goldfinger. This, I believe, is because he has that which no actor since Connery has been able to muster: total coolness mixed with steely toughness. James Bond is supposed to be a character that every woman wants and every man (boy, really) wants to be. The most successful at portraying this will be those in whom those qualities already exist to a large degree. It was this, I think, that made Sean Connery such a good Bond (he wasn't so much acting as exuding aspects of his personality that were already dormant) and, until Craig, no other Bond actor has been able to come close to being his equal in this regard. George Lazenby had the confidence and some of the toughness, he was nowhere near smooth or magnetic enough. Roger Moore, though entertaining, lacked the toughness (for the most part), and thus a crucial element of the James Bond character and appeal. Timothy Dalton was tough enough, but he also wasn't really (for lack of a better word) cool enough-- in large part because he seemed to take what is ultimately a male fantasy, way too seriously. Pierce Brosnan was also in some good movies, but for some reason I found him, in terms of the "toughness" element, a little lacking in believability. I won't presently go so far as to say that Craig is better than Connery, but he's at least his equal, something that I, personally, have been waiting a long time for (it helps, of course, that Craig had an excellent script, director and so forth).

Nostalgia is important, but quality and taste are the most important. I discovered all James Bond films at the same time. Pierce Brosnan's GoldenEye is in theaters and you guessed it...there's a Bond marathon on television. I saw all Bond films for the first time in about a week. And, the Connery films (especially Goldfinger) has ALWAYS been my favorite.

quality and taste are the most important.

I agree-- I just also (currently) think that those standards alone decidedly yield Casino Royale as the best James Bond movie. We are all entitled to our own opinions of course.:word:

Casino Royale is a quality film but taste would indicate if its the best to someone or not.
