"Emma Watson to Star Opposite Tom Hanks in James Ponsoldt’s ‘The Circle’

Emma Watson is set to play the lead opposite Tom Hanks in James Ponsoldt’s next movie “The Circle,” which is a co-production between Playtone and Likely Story, TheWrap has learned.

Ponsoldt (“The Spectacular Now”) adapted the novel written by Dave Eggers and will also produce with Playtone’s Hanks and Gary Goetzman and Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman.

Watson will play a young woman who’s hired for a big job in an Internet monopoly called the Circle, which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. It’s there that she meets a mysterious older man, who will be played by two-time Oscar winner Hanks.

Eggers’ novel turns into a contemporary thriller about the perils of life in a digital age where personal data is collected, sifted and monetized and used for surveillance, rendering privacy obsolete.

“Emma Watson is one of my favorite actors, and her incredible talent, sensitivity, and deep intelligence will bring an electric energy to ‘The Circle,'” said Ponsoldt.

“The Circle” will be presented by Image Nation in association with Parkes MacDonald Productions. IM Global is handling international sales on the film, while CAA and UTA are co-repping domestic rights. Production will begin in September in California before Hanks segues to Clint Eastwood‘s “Sully.”

Alicia Vikander had been attached to star in “The Circle” but she dropped out after agreeing to co-star in the next Jason Bourne movie. Watson is considered a more proven commodity at the box office thanks to her turn as Hermione in the blockbuster “Harry Potter” franchise.

Watson will segue to “The Circle” once she wraps Disney’s live-action “Beauty and the Beast,” in which she stars alongside Dan Stevens and Luke Evans. She next stars opposite Ethan Hawke in Alejandro Amenabar’s thriller “Regression,” and she has also wrapped the indie thriller “Colonia,” in which she stars opposite Daniel Bruhl."

Good casting and a relevant premise for a thriller.

Knowing Hollywood, I imagine they're love interests. :o

‘Star Wars’ John Boyega Lands Lead In James Ponsoldt’s ‘The Circle’

"John Boyega is certainly working with role-model leading men. Boyega, who catapulted from the indie gem Attack The Block to the lead role of Finn in the JJ Abrams-directed film Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, has been tapped to star opposite Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in the James Ponsoldt-directed and scripted adaptation of Dave Eggers’ book The Circle. So he moves from sharing the stage with Harrison Ford, to doing the same with Hanks.

In The Circle, Boyega will play Ty, the iconized boy-wonder visionary of the Circle, an Internet monopoly which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking and purchasing with their universal operating system. The result is one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. He and an employee (Watson) develop a relationship as the perils of life in a digital age inevitably arise."

Karen Gillan Completes ‘Circle’, Lands Final Lead In James Ponsoldt Pic

"Karen Gillan has been tapped to co-star in James Ponsoldt’s film adaptation of Dave Eggers’ The Circle. The Doctor Who and Guardians Of The Galaxy actress joins a loaded cast that includes Tom Hanks, Emma Watson and John Boyega.

Gillan has been set to play Annie, a warm, cute, goofy, old-money confident and fiercely intelligent member of The Circle, an Internet monopoly that links users’ personal emails, social media, banking and purchasing with their universal operating system. The result is one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency — which turns out not to always be a good thing.

The movie was one of the hottest titles in Cannes earlier this year, when Alicia Vikander was attached to star opposite Hanks as a college graduate who goes to work at the conglom. Watson took over when Vikander exited among a bevy of other offers following her breakout success in Ex Machina — she ended up landing a lead role in the next Jason Bourne movie."

Emma and Karen!? Best! Movie! Ever! :awesome:

Boyega
Watson
Gillan

That's a lot of promising talent.

Now if you'll excuse me I have think about Emma Watson and Karen Gillan

Oh that actress who did absolutely nothing in Guardians of the Galaxy? She's cute.

Patton Oswalt Joins James Ponsoldt’s ‘The Circle’

"Patton Oswalt has joined what’s shaping up to be an interesting cast for The Circle, the James Ponsoldt-directed drama based on Dave Eggers’ best-selling book. He joins Tom Hanks, Emma Watson, John Boyega and Karen Gillan in the pic about a college graduate (Watson) who goes to work at the Circle, an Internet monopoly that links users’ personal emails, social media, banking and purchasing with their universal operating system. The result is one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency — which turns out not to always be a good thing.

The busy Oswalt will play Tom Stenton, the tight-lipped, Italian suit-wearing, tough-dealing throwback to a 1980s Wall Street trader who commands respect. He’s one of the Three Wise Men who are founders of the conglom, alongside characters played by Hanks and Boyega.

The movie was one of the hottest titles in Cannes this year, when Alicia Vikander was attached to star. Watson took over when Vikander exited among a bevy of other offers — she ended up landing a lead role in the next Jason Bourne movie. The Circle is expected to draw interest from buyers at the just-underway Toronto Film Festival as a hot title, even though it isn’t anywhere in the lineup."

Indeed. Karen Gillan has also done a few other movies and the underappreciated canceled television series, Selfie.

Selfie was great. Too bad the title was a turn off. The show itself was an adorable little gem.

By the way, great Emma pics. :atp:

Wifey Material!
First the Rey avatar, now you are saying such things about my Emma? Do you not want to be friends anymore? Because it feels like you don't want to be friends anymore. :oldrazz: :o
