What is it?
An awesome looking, exclusive as of right now, cel-shaded JRPG from Namco-Bandai, being developed by Tri-Crescendo. The single player, spiritual successor to True Fantasy Live Online.

What are people saying about it?
Good things.

What does it look like?

Is there a trailer?
Yes

When does it come out?
TBA 2007, for both Japan and Western markets.

Not a whole lot of information on this one, but it's definitely one to keep an eye on. Looks great so far.

It'll probably be ported, which means it will probably have the quality of Enchant Arm. :(

Enchanted Arms was actually pretty good
EDIT: Actually, don't talk about Enchanted Arms, Zenien will move the thread :whatever:

I gave Zenien a diatribe about that in the Civil War thread. She deserved it.

Hopefully this remains exclusive, or at the very least is planned as an exclusive all through development and doesn't get ported until the game is already finished. I'm tired of watered down multi-platform releases :down

The game looks very good though, probably the most visually impressive game at the show IMO. I'm a sucker for cel shading though.

Whatever happened to True Fantasy Live Online? This game looks good. Of course, the 360 has been starved of JRPGs so I'd take a Hello Kitty simulaton at this point. :p

Level 5 proved incapable of getting the game out the door, so it was cancelled.

Because they were taking MS funds to pay for PS2 games.

Oh cut the BS, you're post was pathetic. I deserved it? Yeah you really showed me, what with the getting pissed off about me being right and all. :whatever:

Only the Anachronox-type ones. Not the crappy FF style ones with random battles.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the video it looked like he was running into the enemies before a fight started. :(

Yeah, Zenien's right, but what's wrong with that? EA had them, and so has pretty much every other JRPG.

What's wrong with random battles?

Anyway, this game could be fun, really who knows at this point.

Random battles suck because they're RANDOM. Play an RPG without them for a while and then go back. You can't.

Blue Dragon has random battles.

From what I saw of the gameplay and previews, Blue Dragon does NOT have random battles. Hence why you can "jump kick" into the enemy before the battle engages and thus get the first initiative.

Lost Odyssey probably won't have random battles either since the creator wanted everything to look like a cinematic and a sudden warning screen and then going into a mysterious battle would deter from that.

Lost Odyssey doesn't have random battles. Those are definitely player-initiated.

They look turn-based, or kind of like menu QTEs, but they are definitely not random.

Yea, that's what I was saying, random battles would deter from the cinematic experience. If you want my opinion on random battles, I think they stink. I DESPISE having to try to hurry to some area before another repetitive battle begins and RIGHT BEFORE I get to the chest or extra item, a random battle starts. This almost discourages me from wasting the time to go the extra mile to get extra stuff.

I don't see how WHF doesn't like KH. It's like, his game. Made for him.

Actually, according to the Lost Odyssey demo hands on (after the fire incident), there are random battles but that could just be a placeholder until the real *surprise* elements kick in. Sakaguchi may not want us to know how we face enemies in battle:

Running around the ashy plain felt a similar to Final Fantasy X, especially when we ran into our first random battle. Honestly, running into a random battle was a disappointment. With Blue Dragon's system of putting enemies on screen, and actually letting you do damage and affect their status, it would have been great to see LO adopt a different type of system. Instead, it appears LO is headed down the well-trodden road of random enemy encounters. Hopefully one of the unrevealed gameplay devices changes this up.

I thought it did aswell? I'm pretty sure they were player initiated, like LO.

Checked the video. Zenien was mistaken, Blue Dragon is not based on random battles.

That is what happens, they're both insane. The enemies are randomly "detected", and the fight doesn't start until you run up and actually hit them. It's pretty clear in the videos.
