The question is really: What actor was typecasted by the role? Adam West easily. But he doesn't mind. And he is the one who made my a Batfan.

When you are six, the old Batman series was just as serious as BB is now.

Did you see any of the interviews he did back in '89? He wasn't very happy to have been Batman then.

Yeah, thats true. For one he wanted a cameo which for whatever reason Burton didn't do and I also think before Batman '89 West wanted to do TDKR or a version of it.

Umm, what's the difference? Both are still staring. I saw Batman looks intimidating without grimacing as well during the movie. His first scene with Rachel, with Gordon at his house. So please, Bale haters, get off that because it simply isn't true.

I personally didn't think he looked intimidating when talking to Rachel or Gordon. But that was probably intentional.

I'm not hating on Bale. In fact I'm happy he got the role and I thought he put on a great performance. I didn't think it was fantastic, thought it could be better. I'm hoping he goes all out in The Dark Knight.

He most certainly did look intimidating to the characters inside that universe, which is the entire point. Rachel's eyes buldged and moved back, obviously frightened, by this bat-creature and his menacing glare and monsterous voice. Gordon seemed shocked as well. Let's not forget, Ra's Al Ghul, the international terrorist who was all: when Batman crashes through the monorail window, and lunges and poses infront of him, giving him the "I'm going to kick your ass" look.

Batman isn't supposed to look intimidating to a 20+ year old who views him as the hero. It's just not going to stir up as much of a reaction as seeing a Michael Keaton Batman (who is no more intimidating than Bale's Batman) as a 5 year old. I'm sure kids who saw the movie were pretty frightened by Batman's appearance and viciousness in this movie. Just as you were frightened or intimidated as a 5 year old watching Keaton. But if you still to this day feel intimidated watching Keaton and all his 5'9 / 5'10 and 150-ish something pounds, you may need therapy or psychiatric evaluation.

I'm not hating on Bale.

It certainly comes off that way from your posts. Seems like your perpetually spilling your love juice on Keaton.

In fact I'm happy he got the role and I thought he put on a great performance. I didn't think it was fantastic, thought it could be better.

Sure it could've been better. But I can't complain, it's been the best the absolute best Bruce Wayne / Batman performance in the series thus far.

I'm hoping he goes all out in The Dark Knight.

He just might, cause the situation is to be even more volatile, and Bruce will be more comfortable in his role as Batman, thus becoming the legendary "Dark Knight". Self actualization, Bruce finally becomes a pro at his job, all the while Gotham is rotting and an escelated pace, now full of loonies. Can't wait. I bet it will be even better than BEGINS.

Christian Bale is the best Batman to date, but I will always associate Adam West as being Batman forever, because in the long hau, Bale is probably going to get the same career going as Anthony Hopkins (where he plays a famous role but isn't typecast because of versatility as an actor.)

I agree with some of that. I don't think Gordon came across as scared but like I said I think that was intentional. I love Ra's expression when Batman crashed through the monorail window. Batman's expression was great too, pure whoop ass all the way.

Well at this age, being intimidated by watching a movie about a grown man dressed up as a bat should be viable for therapy or psychiatric evaluation, no matter who's in the suit.

Keaton's height and weight meant absolutely nothing when he was in the batsuit, where the only real features are his chin and his chilling eyes. His eyes is what made him scary.

I've got love for both Keaton and Bale. I think their portrayals are equal, with one being better at something than the other.

I expected more out of Bale because A) the hype surrounding him when he was cast, B) I thought he delivered an Oscar-caliber performance in The Machinist and a good one in Equilibrium, so I expected just as fantastic as those films. I didn't think it was. Easy as that. I think he did a better job in The Prestige, which took place after BB which could mean his skill has progressed and will probably be further along when TDK is filmed.

Nah man . . . he was offered the role of Thomas Wayne but West didnt take it.

Christian Bale IS the Bat. Michael Keaton COULD have been the Bat, but he was too short, too old, and too unfit, and the script didn't help.

Considering that noone had ever managed to actually pull of a decent Bruce Wayne/Batman until BB came out, I would have to say Mr Bale. I mean come on... I still laugh out loud of the absurdity of Michael Keaton being cast.

when it comes to Wayne its alll down to your preference Bale is great as the handsome square jawed wayne but to me Keatons totally odd recluse wayne is better he has more shape to him he is portrays himself as an absentminded quirky millionaire but you can see his feirce intelligence behind hiis eyes and he can turn on the charm when he needs to, bale is an angry man in a suit.

remember B89 was sixteen years ago and was marketed as a big budget action movie BB was marketed more as a indie movie imo they both have different scripts but i belive Keaton cuold if he was in his prime again have been in BB and still portrayed a better wayne/batman i dont think bale could have done the same if he was cast in B89 AND HE WAS IN HIS PRIME THEN.

I was a big fan of Val Kilmer back in the days but now I cant fathom what I saw in that movie in the first place.
These days it will be hard to top Christian Bale as Bruce and Batman.
Many didnt like his voice saying it sounds like Dirty Harry but Im fine with it. Kevin Conroy just nails the Batman voice though.
