I'd like to have seen more of the big 4 talking about their lives and experiences to each other.
A slightly longer scene where Hulk is trying to pick up Mjolnir.
The Chitari to have been tougher and more menacing and have more of them coming through the portal.
Have more involvement with the police/army and civillians during the battles.
Have Tony verbalise which weapon he wanted during his battle scenes and not use his repulsors so much. Would have liked him to use 5 or 6 different weapons.

Tony used quite a few weapons during the final battle. He used 4 different missiles, each located in separate locations (hip, thigh, wrist, and shoulder), and then the one-time use laser weapon on his hand. I think he just uses the repulsors more due to them being of almost infinite quantity and is somewhat conservative in using weapons that could run out of ammo during a prolonged fight.

The Helicarrier,even damaged,still had quite a few jets and such on the deck.Why not sent them to the battle where they'd make cannon fodder out of the invaders?They have the toys,use them.Loki's little army wasn't that tough when it came down to it.

Apparently, the real reason behind this was that the filmmakers couldn't get Pentagon backing for the film. Only Odin knows why.

As for an "If Only" List.

Keep the scene with Maria Hill being debriefed by the WSC. Actually, just more Maria Hill. Damn, Cobie Smulders can play a BAMF so well.

Cut the whole Black Widow "redemption" thing, or leave it unresolved. She must not have had a whole lot of "red in her ledger" if it was balanced out by knocking a guy's head on a railing. This would be much better suited for a Black Widow or SHIELD movie (say, she goes rogue in the middle of a mission to complete some unfinished business, yadda yadda yadda).

Stronger SHIELD involvement in the Battle of Manhattan. Hell, even if there was no Pentagon backing (and thus Pentagon jets), CGI-ed in air to air missiles streaking in from beyond visual range (as would be realistic) and clearing the skies of flyers for a short period of time would be perfectly doable. And having SHIELD troops who for once don't get wiped out in droves would be pretty cool.

Cut the runtime of the Fury-Rogers-Stark pissing match during the midpoint of the movie. It was important, yes, but it ran a little long and could have been streamlined some.

More Army and Police involvement in the Battle of Manhattan.

THE PENTAGON COULDNT SEE HOW S.H.I.E.L.D. WOULD FUNCTION IN THE REAL WORLD OR WHAT ROLE THE PENTAGON WOULD PLAY IN IT SO THEY DIDNT WANT TO ENDORSE IT.

THEY STILL COULD HAVE USED THE JETS. THEY WERE ALLOWED TO USE CG FIGHTER JETS BUT SINCE THE GOVERNMENT DIDNT SUPPORT THEM THEY DIDNT LOAN THE PRODUCTION THE USE OF REAL JETS

I would have preferred that Selvig, being fully aware, but not in control, would have noticed that Loki's staff would be able to breach the tesseract's field due to *insert reasonable comic-booky reason here*

So when he's knocked out and regains control, he can finally TELL someone about it.

My other idea was... Banner had access to study the staff quite a bit - maybe he gained some understanding of it's power source (until it started screwing with them.
When Hulk smashed Loki, he would have seen the staff lying there and HULK would allow a transformation back to Banner, because he knew Banner might be able to shut down the Tesseract with it.

Just a thought I had, because as visually BOORAH amazing (most) people found Banner choosing to turn into Hulk, I would be utterly blown away with Hulk deciding to let Banner come back again (and showing some innate intelligence as well).

Of course, Hulk would have had to be a little different character-wise to the ape-ish one we got to justify that.

Not sure how the "ball was dropped". Cap and Stark almost came to blows multiple times

and then the line Tony says about everything special about Cap coming out of a test tube...Cap and Ironman did anything but get along and I thought the movie played that up real well while making it believable...

The only thing I was surprised was not added was Fury, "Avengers Assemble"

but still with that being said, they are not a FF or a X-men. The Avengers were not truely a formal team, they banded together because they had too so I can wait for a sequel for an "Avengers Assemble" command

I agree. At least they should've made a mention of it in passing - eg Steve telling Tony he's just like his father. It would've been a simple line.

Well I've found her attractive in other movies, but especially attractive in these ones. I think her appearance in the cut off shorts might be her most charming appearance in a film.

I would've liked for the entire scene of Thor "armoring up" to be shown and atleast 5-10 seconds of Thor flying through the air going to the final battle.

Here are the scenes I would have added to the movie.

A scene where Cap mets up with Peggy as a old woman. Or a scene where he is at her grave and says " Sorry I missed our date". I think that would have been cool.

I would have like to have had a line or a scene/cameo with Don Chedle/ explaining why he isn't around as Warmachine in the movie. I mean they could have at least thrown in a quick line referencing him or something. Tony could have said something like " the Warmachine armor damaged and is still being repaired or something". Just seemed odd they acted like he didn't exist.

More scenes with Hawkeye talking about his backstory and his relationship with Black Widow.

And just more scenes with the group interacting with each other. Maybe one scene shedding more light on the motivations of Loki and the Chitiari ( sp?).

Spider-Man swinging onto the top of a building in NY during or just after the big battle and just turning to the camera and giving it a puzzled look and a Shrug.

Shame it couldn't happen.

Definitely would have added a scene with Peggy and more of cap adjusting to the city also would have loved a few more scenes of hawkeye to characterize him more also would have loved if banner mention Bettys name or something

More stuff with Hawkeye really. I thought he had a great amount of screen time but if I'm wishing I'd want to see more 616 Hawkeye, with him arguing with Captain America.
