Face/Off is one of the greatest action movies of all time, and not even for John Woo's signature scenes. It's that the actors so committed to selling the idea of face swapping and exploring all the emotional issues that the plot entailed. So we all own a copy of it already, but now they've put out a special edition with deleted scenes and alternate ending, so we can see even more Face/Off.
Pretty much all of the deleted scenes are worth seeing. Castor commits a sin while wearing a priest outfit. There's a heartwarming father/daughter moment followed by more intense Travolta weeping. A prison conversation reveals more of the Troys' family history, while the incognito Archer tries to keep up.
There's some extra shooting at Dietrich's hideout. Not like a whole John Woo scene's worth, but some good squibs and dives. We seem to see the fate of every henchman, if anyone was wondering about the extras. There's an extended version of the beach fight too, so some good extra scuffling there.
The alternate ending is more of an epilogue, and a kind of ridiculous dream sequence at that. They don't do the "Archer can't have his face back" ending, although the dream maybe suggest something.
The Collector's Edition also includes two commentary tracks, one by Woo and one by the writers. Disc two has a feature on the making of the film and a spotlight on Woo's life and career. All valuable material to have for the archives.
