Fantastic Four officially back Marvel?

I really doubt it to be honest. 5 years is too soon to try rebooting again after the last one. The toxic stink of Hulk still hurt Incredible Hulk so it'd be silly to barge back in and launch another FF movie in 2020.

And thats IF Fox gave up the FF rights, which is still a big if. In my mind, two TV shows (one of which is on cable) don't really justify handing over the reigns to a movie franchise. Even though the last one absolutely sucked, that hasn't stopped Hollywood from trying to make more in the past. And even if Fox doesn't make a solo film they still have another 7 years.

Noah Hawley says the X-Men TV deal has been in the works for months.

Maybe Marvel gets a sweet co-production deal out of it, points etc. Maybe they get to control all merchandising, ancillary rights, et al. That's me just spitballing ways the deal could've been worth their while outside of a film rights trade.

Also, we know X-Men isn't going back to Disney/Marvel fore the foreseeable future. It's probably beneficial for the TV divisions to make this deal at the moment. We'll see how it pans out.

I think the reason the media got too ahead of themselves is that when they first heard that Marvel was negotiating with FOX for the X-Men TV shows, they assumed that Fantastic Four was a bargaining chip. That news came out just after FF bombed.

Right now, Marvel fans want this sort of movie/tv manifest destiny. Of all the characters returning to Marvel. Happened with Punisher and Daredevil. Then Ghost Rider. SORT OF Spider-Man. Now FF seems like the next likely candidate.

Technically, Iron Man was the first. You will all remember. An Iron Man movie was first announced like 02-03 by NEW LINE CINEMA. A lot of development work but no results. The rights reverted to Marvel and they decided to make the movies themselves. The rest as they say is history.

Did the script for the Iron Man movie from Newline ever become public? It would be interesting to read from a what if standpoint.

Anyways, I think both companies have something worked out but are just waiting to see how their own plans may go through (Marvel's end seeing how their own films pan out in phase 3 and Fox's end until they get things going more as well) or have something worked out yet just don't want to announce anything at the moment. The ancilliary rights perhaps are part of the picture as you suggested too.

I wonder though, do more than 90% of the people on these forums want to see another Fantastic Four movie with all the villains introduced into the MCU at the expense of an Inhumans movie (or Marvel being forced to improvise putting lesser known properties at the forefront)? The answer of course probably is yes unless of course Marvel is forced to release lesser known properties instead of Fantastic Four then the % would drop a bit.

Ideally, I would want the Infinity War films to serve as the FF's introduction to the MCU. Granted, Marvel would still have a lot of work cut off for them as far as changing the public perceptions of the characters, but I think an appearance in an Avengers film could help a lot with that.

Makes sense to me. I just think 2020 will have GOTG 3 (3 years between GOTGs like between GOTG 1 and 2) and Strange 2 will be out in 2021. But that's 5 years between Strange movies. Hmmm...
That's another franchise in the mix. I'm confident there will be one new franchise-starter in 2020. I think Strange is the safest bet for a slot, as it will be the longest gap between films. Also, Marvel won't want two mega stars in one year (Spidey and GOTG) If Spidey gets the symbiote in Infinity War, I think he's most likely to get that third "anchor" slot.

If Marvel were to get the rights for the Fantastic Four back I would introduce Doctor Doom in another Marvel movie and then when you get around to making the FF you don't bog the movie down with a Dr. Doom origin.
Going with the 60s time lost concept, or even without it, I'd love to see a Doom Netflex mini-series, basically containing their origins from Doom's perspective, a good way to build hype for the release and convince people that the new F4 is worth seeing.

I want the rights to go back as soon as possible, but I really wouldn't mind not having an MCU F4 movie until sometime after 2020. They could introduce Annihilus, Kang, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Skrulls, the Watcher, Blastaar, Terrax, etc. even without a F4 movie.
